I think that it's nearly impossible not to judge a person when they first do something to hurt you. It's natural to think that their behavior has something to do with who they are as a person, and to wonder about that. However, after that initial reaction, I think the healthiest course of action is to withdraw that judgment and forgive.

When someone says something mean to me, I get mad... and maybe I even say something mean back. But, when all is said and done, I try to remember that I have done mean things to people at times, and those things were not representative of who I am... so I really have no right using a different measure of character on someone else. I try to separate the person from the behavior.

Forgiveness to me means that I will try to empathize and not let a grudge take hold. I would try to forgive even the murderer of someone I love. I don't know if I could, but I believe in forgiveness enough that I would try. Nothing good can come from withholding forgiveness indefinitely.

The only thing that has really changed in my view of all this is that I don't think it's "wrong" to judge, I just don't think it's the healthiest course of action. Not entirely the same things I thought as a Christian, but actually pretty close still.

How can you think you are not judging? If you have a time where you feel the need to forgive someone, then you have judged them to make that decision. If you decide not to forgive, you have judged them unforgivable.

if you do judge first then you ask for forgivness and you also forgive but you are allowed to judge an action so who ever did that action you can forgive as long as you dont judge them

Why would you not be allowed to judge? You forgive an action. You judge an action. We're told not to judge one anothers' soul, but commanded to judge actions. Forgiving wrongs committed against you is not judging a person, it is judging their action.

Why do you think you have to judge in order to forgive? Judgment in the Bible involves much more than making a decision about someone doing wrong, whether it be to you or anyone else.

Your lot in this life is not to judge in order to forgive. You can forgive somebody without reconciling with them. In otherwords if someone betrayed you, you can forgive them without keeping them in your life. Read the news, people forgive others who have hurt or even murdered a family member but they do no have them "over to dinner." My dad was very smart and told me a long time ago. It takes two to tango, if someone betrays you chances are the relationship was not that strong to begin with.

Only if they have personally wronged you. Than you get to (have to) say you forgive them, if you want God to forgive you. Judge not lest you be judged.:o]

Judging (Matthew 7:1) is often misquoted by those who are not open-minded to God's Word. A careful examination of the context of the Scriptures shows that judging (discerning) is demanded. In order to take the mote out of thy brother's eye, we have to discern that he has a mote in his eye. Since we will all be judged by God's Word, how can we go wrong by judging righteous judgment according to His Word? (ALSO.)..John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."
