dont get into any habit of picking toddler up or bringing him/her to your bed as your problem will only get worse!! what you should do is reassure the child in their own bed and leave the room. dont fall into the trap of sympathy if they're crying! its called tough love and will work out after a couple of nights. if they leave their bed you must put them back in reassure them and leave the room again. believe me it'll be hard but persevere and it will pay dividends in the end!! good luck!

Have you tried making it a calm relaxed atmosphere when you put him/her to bed in the first place?? try some soothing classical music & some lava lamps in the room & a nice warm bottle/cup of milk. If they awake in the night go in & put the music on quietly give them a hug & put them back down & leave the room. Do not speak to them as that gives them permission to talk back when you want them to sleep. if they cry they will soon go back to sleep, just make sure they are not too hot when you hug him/her and check that there isnt any thing obvious in the room which may of scared them ie a shadow of a tree at the window. good luck x

first of all wait a few minutes and see if he/she goes back to sleep again it could have been a bad dream, if still crying go in quietly, without putting the light on, check nappy and comfort etc, talk in a low soothing voice and settle back down with milk if necessary, keep to minimum fuss or you could find it happens more frequently

A little brandy in the night time bottle works wonders once in a blue moon particularly if the child suffering with a cold or teething.
Yes I can hear all the protests as I type but its one of those trad remedies still in use today.

With mine, I try not to take him to my bed, and as long as I know he is not unwell prior to going to bed, I will get him a small beaker of warm milk or water and ONLY enter the room with it! give him a hug and kiss, say i love him and say go back to night nights and leave the room rapidly and head back to bed myself hoping he settles back off to sleep on his own. He is usually waking only because he is too hot, too cold or thirsty. Good luck!!

Find something that comforts the toddler, ie, blanket, soft toy... i found this worked for my daughter... the downside is that my daughter and the blanket are inseperable!
musical toys are good to, they do ones with pretty lights that can make ur toddler tired, because they are distracted by how pretty they are...

Just try and settle them back down as quickly and quietly as possible and then leave the room. No muss, no fuss.
