That's b/s.

It's a simple calculation: Burn more calories than you take in, you'll lose weight. Take in more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. It really is THAT simple.

The hard part is sticking to a plan. I know this, because I've battled weight all my life.

There is no way to lose 50 pounds FAST. Weight loss should be, and is most effective in the long run if done at a slower pace. Studies have been done that show people who lose mass amounts of weight extremely fast are far more likely to gain it back again.

However, I tried a diet this summer, and I lost about 10 pounds in about 5 weeks. I basically worked around the South Beach Diet's concepts about eating the right kinds of carbs for your body, cutting calories down, and my excercise of choice (a better workout than running, at least for me) was *swimming*.

Fast, Easy and Diet are things that have to be stricken from your vocabulary. You change your lifestyle, not go on a diet. I lost 80lbs changing my habits.

The first thing I did to start was cut out soda. Stop drinking it! You wont even miss it either. When I drink it now it tastes disgusting.

Eat foods low in sodium and sugar. Also watch your fat intake, and saturated fats. There a bunch of calculators and things out there on the web that will help you find out how many calories and how much fat you should be taking in on a daily basis.

check it out:

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm <-- calculates how many calories you should take in if you are losing or maintaining weight.

http://www.healthcalculators.org/calculators/fat.asp <--- Daily Fat Calculator. How many grams of fat you should be eating a day.

Once I did that, I realized I lost weight the first week! That motivated me to start exercising. You have to exercise. Also if youre trying to lose a lot of weight, you better exercise, or youll have a loose skin problem. The exercise is great for your body. Whether you want to walk, jog, jump, skate or bike, do something to get your heart pumping. Exercise boosts your metabolism too.

Remember that 3600 calories = 1lb. Youll be cutting out 500 calories a day in your food, then make an effort to burn 500 extra calories a day to lose about 1 or 2 lbs a week. More than that is no good for you. Do whatever you can to keep moving. Walking instead of just plopping down on the bus or train. Take the stairs instead of the elevator

Another thing you can do is eat 6 times throughout the day. SMALL MEALS. Eating light and frequently boosts your metabolism as well. So eat a lite breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between that snack on fruits, vegetables, cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, ect. Green tea also boosts metabolism, so does peanuts. But dont eat them in excess they are high in fat, although heart healthy fat, you still dont want to undo your progress!

Drink a lot of tea and water!

Eat fruits and vegetables! When picking greens, the darker the better. Lettuce is bascially all water and lacks nutrients. Go for some fresh spinach and stuff like that.

When picking out a bread, go for the whole grain ones. Read labels! Get the bread with the LEAST amount of ingredients. Compare Wonderbread to another healthy bread... look how much CRAP Wonderbread has in there. Its all scary preservatives. Arnold makes good bread. Honey Oat or Dark German Wheat are good. If you HAVE to eat white bread, still get the one with the least amount of ingredients.

Dont ignore labels! Youll be surprised how much calories, fat, sodium and sugars are in some of the things you were eating on a daily basis.

If I can do it, you can do it. I wish I only had 50 lbs to lose. I lost 80 and still got 10 more to go! lol

GOOD LUCK!

I have lost 11lbs in 4 weeks and I did that by eating only chicken fish veggies and low or no fatty foods and I excercise 5 times a week . I started out walking 2 miles a day for 5 days and now I can walk 4 miles. I am 229 lbs so that tells you I ain't no skinny chick trying to lose 5 or 10 vanity pounds. So diet and exercise does work, you just have to keep going. It WILL work.

I know it is not what you want to hear, but consider this. I takes a long time to gain 50 lbs. just like it will take a long time to lose 50 lbs. You could probably find some easy way to shed quick weight, but I can assure you if you get caught slippin it will be back on quick. Try this it will help, stop drinking all soda, and alcohol, try to eat whole foods instead of processed foods. Drink plenty of water. Try to never consume High Fructose Corn Syrup, it is almost in everything. Finally you must raise your heart rate for at least 30 minutes at least 3 times per week. If you do these basic things you will shed pounds galore.

I invented a diet, you will be guarenteed to lose weight.

If you have a car, trade it for a bicycle. Then give me almost all your money.

hehe

Seriously though. I was 100lbs overweight, but I lived in a city. I biked/walked 7 miles a day. I was poor. I was also a pothead, but, well.... I never had money for that either. I ate about one meal a day. Even if I wanted to eat McDonald's I had to bike/walk around 5 miles (round trip) just to get fed.

You can't lose more than 3 lbs. a week healthily. I lost weight rapidly and it still took a while. I lost 15 lbs. a month for about 6 months....then 10 lbs. a month...then 5 lbs. a month. I went from 260 to 179. Then I got back up to 195. I'm supposed to be 200-210 for my age and height.....

it can be done, but it's hard and it takes alot of hungry nights.

Look into the South Beach Diet. If you follow it and excercise, you should be able to get pretty close to your goal within 5 or 6 months.

Well seems to me you weren't fully on board of your diet or exercise regimen. Otherwise, you might have a thyroid condition and get it checked out by a doctor.
You can't lose 50 lbs in 5 months without serious attention to your diet and exercise.
Fat melts by exercising.
