I have noticed recently that my black lab has developed a "black spot" on her butt. I keep meaning to call her vet but time gets away from us. Does anyone know or had experience as to what this "spot" may be? Is it dangerous? It does not really seem to bother her any, but we would rather be safe than sorry.

let me clear this up, before someone goes raging on someone you might want to know the WHOLE situation! It just showed up the other day. And I do take very good care of this furbaby. I take better care of her than most human beings are taken care of. I just think if someone is going to be so cruel as some of these answers have been they better know what they are talking about 100%. And I asked on here to SEE if anyone else has had this problem. THANK YOU!

Shhesh guys.. TO those of you who are saying dont have kids and oh ym god I cant belwive you .. Give me a break!

They say its not bugging the dog they only just noticed it.... okk .. wow.. are you perfect??

OK now to answer YOUR question..

There is so much it could be ,..including skin cancer... Labs can and do get all kind of skin stuff.. they just do

But if it were me,,and it was my dog.. Id for sure at least call the vet but better than that make an appointment and take him in.. Youd feel awful later if it was something bad and because you did not get it trreated in time it cost him his life later.

So find a time.. lunch hour at work whatever to call the vet.. write a note to yourself to do it so you dont forget as you get busy during the day...

Good Luck

There is so much I would like to say about the "time gets away from us." If you would rather be safe than sorry, NO Offense Yahoo Answer, but this is not the place to ask. You are going to end up one of those at 10:00 at night begging for an answer you should have had taken care of a long time before. Get her checked BY A VET. "Better safe than sorry," wow I am having a problem with this. If you don't have the time for her safety then I hate to say this but ...oh well..I won't be hateful. Your not having kids anytime soon are you?

u would rather b safe than sorry but can't seem to find the time to even call the vet much less take her there . u have no more business having a dog than a flying to the moon. i certainly hope u don't have and never will have children if thats the way u treat a poor dumb dog.

The area you are concerned about is it just on the fur? is it on the skin? not to sound stupid but if its just on the fur could it be she got into something and stained it? Is the area raised like a fatty tumor? Or more like a mole type area?? I'm just tossing out thoughts but most of all you will want to have her seen by the vet.
good luck and I hope its not serious

as long as you have ruled out its not a tick in there as only some ticks are harm full, sounds like a blood clot,as if it was a cyst it would be a larger size and soft in texture.I don't blame you for worrying and treating her better then a human, you sound like a person we would to buy a pup of us as we thoroughly check our dogs,Another suggestion i dont know if animals get them but could it be like a pile?
