Titian's Venus of Urbino is an example of a beautiful painting AND feminine beauty (see link below) - and these terms are probably synonymous for a lot of folk. Tiepolo, Ingres, Delacroix, Perugino could all produce exuisitely beatiful pictures. But if you are really interested in this subject track down Kenneth Clark's book 'Feminine Beauty and Umberto Eco's 'On Beauty'.

There is an exquisitely beautiful painting in Manchester Art Gallery called 'The Silver Favourites' by Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema. It depicts several languid Greek women by a pool which contains gold and silver fish and it's absolutely gorgeous. I used to work in the city centre and would run in during my lunch hour to gaze at it for a few minutes to refresh my soul.

Sorry this is not a painting, but Michelangelo's pieta always moves me among all other pietas...

As a painting, I love Frida Kahlo's portraits for it's raw reality of subject, confessional, and very emotionally charged way of interpreting her own experiences. Yet the vibrant colours don't make these paintings too solemn....blah. What's your favourite one? :)

This is a strange question because beauty is a different thing to us all. But here are my beautiful faves:

Flaming June by Fredrick Lord Leighton: http://www.icecastle.org/artwork/images/Flaming%20June,%20by%20Fredrick%20Lord%20Leighton%20(1830-1896)_jpg.jpg

and

Ophelia by John Everett Millais: http://www.digitalart.ab.ca/art/symbolism/images/ophelia-millais.jpg

Quite odd choices for me as I'm usually quite rambunctious!
