Hi Andie
Jogging's great huh...it has that freedom factor and gives a wickid definition on the Legs.
sounds to me like your not resting andie.....your possibly doing this everyday.....you can....but you may be doing more miles than you can handle.
Try the power of rest, allow any pain or swelling to go down on the ACHILLES TENDON that a common jogging complaint...
I'm talking about.. taking two weeks off from the jogging girl!
i mean it...I've been where you are....i do a minimum 10 miles a session because i love it. if you continue you will cause some real damage.... when you start back again, do the minimum then go home...get back out there 2 days later then build up slowly
also try skipping , walking. when your ankles are good again
you could also try the rice method:
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
your ankles are weak, so you must support them wearing a good pair of running trainers strap your ankles also ....make sure you warm up before you run that's insurance, prevents these problems
I also think you could build and strengthen your legs, calf,Achilles tendon ...good luck

First you need to take a few weeks off. give your body time to heal. I know it's hard. I'm in the process of letting my knee heal now. And since the doctor told me not to run I can't think of anything more I want to do but run.
Second, some of the above posters are correct, go to a store that specializes in running shoes. A store that watches the way you walk without shoes. The can tell you what shoes will work best with your feet. also they told me I had been buying the wrong size. my everyday shoes are a full size smaller than my running shoes. feet swell when running / jogging. I know it may sound silly put you may be lacing the shoes to high or to tight. The right shoe store can answer so many questions and get you back on the road.
*if these things don't work then maybe you should see the dr.
*Good luck*

Well,
You can be hardcore and run with the pain until you get past it. I've ran til' my legs hurt so bad I had to sit down on the track and could barely walk home even after resting. I don't suggest that, but f that, I was finishing that last lap.
Anyway, if your ankles and calves hurts, try to run more with your thighs and lift your knees up higher. You could try some really good running shoes, like those Air Max 360o's.
I'd suggest just taking a break. You might also try swimming. Even more enjoyable that running, and if you have a good indoor pool near you...
I have a GREAT indoor pool where I live at the community fitness center. It costs $50 a month to use the gym, but hey, it's going to be winter and I'm going to be in a heated pool while people are outside freezing.....sweet.
Running/jogging is hardcore. You can bike, swim, lift weights, play soccer/etc.
After running I used to go play basketball and even though I wasn't as good as other people I never ran out of breath and could play full court all day. It was so much easier than running.

I took up jogging when my marriage broke up to relieve stress. I also gave up smoking so I wasn't so puffed out when I was running but the downside was that owing to work commitments I ran at 10 o'clock at night. By the time I got back I couldn't get back to sleep till 2 in the morning and I lost too much weight. So as far as your sore ankles go, I would suggest you get someone to massage them for you, immediately after you have had a shower and alternate the days you jog.

Yes you can do walking instead of jogging it work out the same thing. Try to do walking 15-30 minutes after dinner every night instead of sitting around.

Cut down on jogging for a while then gradually build back up again. Try cycling as well.

i have to agree with returnofkarlos, jogging is one of the worst types of 'excercise' you can do. its exreamly damaging to your joints as the jerky action causes stresses on them why not do excerise which is much more 'fluid' and organic, power walking or running, riding a bike is very good.
i'm afraid to say that jogging does more harm than good, and it sadens me seeing so many people joggin past my window, thinking its the best for them when in 10 years time they will regret doing it.
hope this helps :)

Ride a bike. Much better. Jogging is bad for the joints as you have discovered.

Rest it for a while. Its also worth looking into buying an ankle support. You could also have your current running style looked at in your local running shop to see if you are wearing the correct trainers.

it happened to me once. Then the doctor told me to cut down on jogging for a while. Now I do it again but I no longer overdo it.
