I have lived around a lot of lightning and thunder in my life and have never been hit or seen lightning strike anything. Nobody I know has ever been hit by lightning. Other than on the news, I have never heard of anyone getting hit by lightning. In those stories I have ready about someone getting hit by lightning, they were always in a spot you shouldn't be, like in the water, in an open field, etc. Stay indoors and you'll be fine. You have much more to fear getting into your car every day.

It's a common fear. I think that thunder and lightning on the other hand are very beautiful. Just remember that thunder is nothing more than a loud noise, and lightning well so long as your not wrapped in foil and fixing an antenna on your roof you should be OK. J/K
Face your fears, take time to watch the storm next time it happens and instead of thinking of it in a bad way right of the bat, try and see the beauty in it. Like it's a light show maybe. To me it's just art lit up and written in the sky. Fear is a mind over matter kind of thing, it never hurts to try a suggestion right? Well, GOOD LUCK! I wish you the best in concerning your fears.

Obviously, lightning is the only of the two that you have ANY reason to be afraid of. But very few people are ever struck by lightning, and a good part of those who are don't die. Try to remember that lightening is not an "intelligent force out to get you". It is a phenomenon of nature and it will always follow the laws of nature. Since we have knowledge of these laws, we can make ourselves safer from lightning by not placing our bodies in any part of a highly conductive path from the ground to the sky during a storm.
I LOVE thunderstorms! Here in the Southern US, the summer weather is extremely dynamic and on those days when the sun and the thunder cells "fight" over the sky, It can be a beautiful sight!

I don't consider myself smart, but here's my cent anyway. The fear of thunder and lightning stems from being afraid of anything that you cannot control. Nature phenomenon such as thunder, lightning, earthquake can cause major damage, which you are aware of. A vivid imagination will help this fear manifest itself into a phobia, which can only be overcome by educating yourself and going through what is called a desensitization therapy. The latter means that you will be exposed to the phobia over and over until you are immune to it.

Well dear, nothing that anyone can write here will prevent you from being afraid of something. However, it might help to ease your problem if you face up to it, gradually, with the support of someone else. eg if you have a fear of snakes, you can expose yourself to them, in a safe environment and gradually become less agitated by their presence. I'll bet that the same thing could be done here. Try listening to the recorded sounds of thunder on your stereo, gradually turning up the volume (until the neighbours complain). Then next time there is a storm, just think of it as the stereo recording. It may help - good luck

People often say the best way to get over a fear is to face it. If you really want to get over your fear of thunder and lightining I would say that the best thing would be to learn about it. Often fear is based on lack on knowledge. When you learn just what thunder and lightining is and how unlikely you are to be struck by it, it may ease your fears. Also when the next storm comes perhaps instead of hiding you may want to watch (from a safe distance)...for some people thunder and lighting is actually quite a beautiful thing to watch. Good luck!

What you need to do is try and find out why you are afraid. Face your fears through education. Get on your
computer and learn about thunder and lightening. Talk
to a therapist to get some insight into your fears and find
the strength to face what scares you. You'll be glad you did. Good luck.

you may have a fear of thunder and lighting because it runs in your genes. i bet every since you were a kid you had a fear of thunder and lightening.
the only way i think you can solve this problem is to constantly tell yourself that's theres nothing toe be scared of. i mean because what are the chances of getting strict by lightening anyway. you need to confront your fear to resolve the problem......its the only way

Thunder is just noise from lightning, no worry there.
If lightning flashes too close, its good to have fear, because it's dangerous.
