Each of The Beatles had different hair types and styles through out the 60's. Their most famous style was created by a close friend in Germany. It was a cut so that it framed their face with long fringe/bangs and a bit shaggy. No styling product was used so that when they shook their heads whilst performing it moved. Hence the name mop tops. It was fairly sensational at the time as men kept their hair much shorter and combed back.

Early on, they had what is colloquially known as a "ducktail" in which it was combed back around the sides of the head to look like the back of a duck. They are more famous for the "mop top" they later adopted.
