No, it's not. It's no more fair to let women and children go first than it is to discriminate against a man in the workplace (for example, hiring a woman to promote "diversity" when the man is more qualified). Men should not be discriminated against. Many men are a lot better than women or children. Some women and children should get off the boat, and some should stay behind, especially the whiny ones.

Yes, I think so, the way I look at it is the children haven't even had a chance to expierence life so they should be put first to ensure survival and in doing so the mother of that child should go with it, children need there mothers, Mothers have the closer bond and although a Father is very important and it is awful not to have one in your life, The man if he is a real man should be making sure that the women and children are getting off ship safely. Thats just the way it is Man looks after wife, Mother looks after child. Very cool question!

This was the standard before the "code" for life boats changed. Men stayed behind because it was considered "manly" and the "right thing to do."

My husband tells me that since the sinking of the Titanic, regulations have changed regarding life boats and life jackets. Ocean liners, ships, etc., MUST provide life jackets for all passengers and there MUST be enough life boats to accommodate all passengers.

Life boat drills are done regularly on passenger liners so all passengers know where to go and how to go about it safely- sort of like fire drills when we were in school.

As a woman I never even understood that. Men are precious life too, if not more to me. They are the family heads ( in my world anyway ) and the best to provide. Why would I want to live without him? But I suppose that's a gentlemen's call, not a womans. Cause if you think about it, men are stronger, and if they wanted the boats to themselves, not too much women or children could do!

No. Not fair, but necessary to exercise the finer instincts of being a man. A good man is a noble creation of God. Thank God for all the good men who wouldn't push women or children aside, even at the price of their life, and for those who still open doors for us, making us feel more like women, and themselves more like men. You (Special) men add to the romance and beauty of life, and I will take this opportunity to thank you. For you who want to get off the ship first, you have my sympathy for being so pitiful.

Yes. I wouldn't want to live the rest of my life knowing that i took the seat that could have saved an innocent child. I will take my chances on the boat and die with a clear conscious knowing i saved someone else. Peace.
