Kosher foods are foods that follow the dietary laws found in the Torah and in the Talmud. The rules vary according to the type of food, but it starts with the proper humane treatment of animals. Animals must be killed a certain way. There are cleanliness requirements andrequirements preventing the mixture of certain meats or of meat and milk. Some animals may never be eaten. really too much to detail here.

Kosher is a set of dietary laws that govern what Jews can eat and how it is prepared.

Food is "Kosher" if it adheres to those rules (which are detailed and complicated).

Certain foods are forbiddene entirely--pork and seafood are the best-known to goys. However such things as eating meat and diary together are also forbidden (so cheeseburgers are out).

How animals are slaughterd, food is prepared and cooked, even the untensils used are all covered by strict guidelines.

Foods that are marked "kosher" in the supermarket have been inspected by a special organization that certifies that the product has been prepared according to the proper guidelines.

In the old testament, YHVH defined several foods and types of food as being 'unclean'. This created a whole industry of Hebes who prepared foods and guarunteed that whatever they sold was ritually clean in terms of God's definitions. In certain kinds of Hebrew language, this is called 'kosher'.
