AP US History teacher
she taught us more than just the basic dates and events, she linked everything with world events and culture so you could better understand why things happened as they did and when they did. this kind of knowledge later helped me to understand the history of psychology, sociology, humanities, etc etc etc, which all made college easier.
she also would throw in fun information that really didn't make much of a difference to anyone but that was neat to know and helped you learn more. for example, the reason Benjamin Franklin was chosen to be the ambasador to France was because the women of the french aristocracy thought he was a hottie and it was rumored that he had affairs with several of them. these women in turn would influence their powerful husbands to support a little fledgling country called the united states.
she also taught us how to make those connections ourselves and that nothing is an isolated event and nothing is ever just black and white. she made us think and make comparisons by having us do group projects which were video documentaries from standpoints you would never expect. this was at a time when very few people actually owned video cameras but i will never forget the lessons we learned in that class.

the best college class i ever had was a sociology/psychology class designed to be a therapy-type atmosphere to make everyone face their hang-ups in life and to better understand the major life decisions that a person faces throughout their life cycle so that you can get more fully understand yourself and your own motives before going out and being the therapist and accidentally projecting your own problems onto your clients. it was one of the first internet classes offered at my univ. and it allowed us to explore and be open/honest in a way that face to face would never allow. it made it possible to say things that you would be too embarassed to admit to someone, let alone a stranger, in person.

My HS Gov't teacher, Mr. Spriggs! He also taught a class called Valuing and we talked about anything and everythings under the sun. We were aloud to ask him about anything....Drugs, Sex, Life, all topics. He would do his best to answer and if they were not answerable he would simply pass on it. It was an open classroom, but nothing left the room at the end of the day. He was someone that everyone looked up to and could confide in. He had a very cool project for us, we wrote letters to ourselves as many as we wanted to and sealed them in envelopes. On them we wrote various things, our goals for example and the date that we wanted to achieve these things. On the outside of the envelope we would simply write our Names and the date we wanted to have it sent. I graduated 10 years ago and many of my classmates are still getting them. He has it all set up with other people to help mail them if he for some reason is unable to to it himself. He ROCKS!

Frau, my german teacher. She taught using activities which made learning sooo much easier. She also was always there for her students. She took care of them, but didn't treat them like they were her best friend. She kept a perfect student/teacher relationship. She also was extreamly funny and smart. Best teacher I've ever had.

Our high school physics teacher, because he taught us how to logically approach solving problems. For all the other teachers I ever had, if you could not figure it out for yourself, then you learned nothing because they could not teach and could not be bothered trying to help students.
