this is the joke:
Every day a woman stood on her porch and shouted, "Praise the Lord!"
And every day the atheist next door yelled back, "There is no Lord!"
One day she prayed, "Lord i'm hungry. Please send me groceries."
The next morning she found a big bag of food on the stairs. "Praise the Lord," she shouted.
"I told you there is no Lord," her neighbor said, jumping from behind a bush. "I bought those groceries."
"Praise the Lord," the woman said. "He not only sent me the groceries, but he made the devil pay for them."

can someone please explain it? thanks!

So this woman obviously believes in God. Some religions that believe in God, think that those who don't believe, are going to hell. An athiest is someone who doesn't believe in God.
So when the neighbour said that he paid for the groceries, she said that God sent the groceries and made the devil pay for them. The joke is just saying that athiests are devils.
I hope this helps, eh?
=D

That is so cute. She was praising the Lord everyday, and the athiest was saying there was no God. Well when she asked the Lord to bring her groceries and the neighbor brought them to her, he had obviouly paid for the groceries. She thought that he was the devil because he did not believe in God, so therefore the devil bought the groceries.

It's making fun of fundemental Christians. The joke is that Christians believe things and events are all inspired from God, even if there's obvious proof that the event was done by man. The "devil" in this scenario is the atheist, because supposedly fundemental Christians believe someone who doesn't believe in God is evil. The atheist didn't actually bring the groceries, the chrisitan in the joke believes, God brought the groceries by way of the atheist. It's basically the same arguement when people say God made 9-11 happen as a punishment. The terrorists didn't do it, God LET the terrorists do it as a lesson.

Because the woman had faith in God she prayed for the groceries. The Neighbor would hear her prayers and as a joke he went and brought her some groceries...not knowing that he was answering her prayer. She said "He not only sent me the groceries, but he made the devil pay for them"..she was talking about the man being the devil because he was making fun of her. Just read it slowly and think about it again.

The woman is pointing out the obvious, she fooled the neighbor. It seems to me that she wasn't really "praising the lord" and she knew the neighbor would try to prover her wrong for saying "praise the lord". So, when she needed groceries she "asked" God for them and the neighbor hearing her and wanting to prover her wrong about God, went and bought the groceries. So, she's saying not only did I prove you wrong, but she made the devil pay for them. God not paying for them because the athiest doesn't believe in him. Then again atheists don't worship anything. That's the basis of atheism, they don't believe in God or Satan. Hmmmmm, yeah it doesn't make sense.

She called the neighbor the devil because he didn't believe in the Lord.

well she is obviously a firm believer in God. But the athiest, obviously isn't, so he's like a son of Satan, if that makes sense. so the Lord sent him to get her groceries for her, and she is saying He made the devil pay for 'em because the athiest doesn't believe in God. get it?
