Perhaps the pups nails need trimming.

At 3 weeks you can start feeding them puppy chow soaked with water so it is mushy.

If the nail trimming doesn't work, for the next week, follow the information below from Leerburg Kennels:

"I have bred over 350 litters of GSD's (German Shepherd Dogs) in my 30 year breeding career. Over the years we have done our share of caring for newborns that need help. We have also come up with our own newborn puppy formula that I think is the best we have seen.

You can make our formula at home and it has 11 calories per CC.

The problem with commercial formula that you buy at your vet is that it only has about 1 or 2 calories per CC. In my opinion this is not enough nutrition to provide for for adequate growth.

We have used this formula many many times and it works better than any others that I have tried.

If you are hand raising puppies and they develop medical problems you will need to contact your vet.

Here are some general rules for bottle feeding puppies:

Always boil your water before using - allow time to cool.

Burp your pups after feeding.

A pup may have little bubbles by his mouth but there should not be milk running out of his mouth.

When the bottle is held upside down the milk should drip out - NOT FLOW OUT in a stream - pups that get milk in their lungs will get pneumonia and more than likely die.

Calorie intake needs to be adjusted according to growth of puppies. A general rule of thumb (unless someone has a better idea) is 1 CC per OZ. of body weight every 3 hours.

You must have an accurate scale to weigh pups if you are going to get the best success. Use a kitchen food scale. The ones with grams is what we use in our kennel. It is easy to see any weight gain or loss. Keep a record that you can easily refer to.

Bottle Feeding Recipe

11 Calories per CC

10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause diarreah - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk) Goats milk is by far the best to use. Wall Mart sells it.

3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk

1 raw egg yolk

1 tablespoon regular mayonnaise (optional)

1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free)

1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!)

Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles Keep cool and discard leftovers after 7 days.

Warm formula to body temperature (dogs are around 101 degrees). Discard any un-used formula. This is a thick mixture - enlarge the hole in the nipple for easy access for the pup.

Ok, first of all. Calm down. Many dogs have the same problem. Espically if it's her first litter. Gentley grab her tit, I know this sounds nasty but try and gentley move a pup up to it. And let the puppy suck on it. If Princess refuses don't push her. If she feels to croweded she won't feed the pups. Move her to a dark spot and see if she'll feed them there. If she does not, then I would asap go to Wal-mart, because they sell the special puppy formula, mix it with the milk as the directions on the bottle should tell and warm it up. Then feed each puppy every two hours. Day and night. It's hard, there were times when i felt like smacking my dog because she never fed them, (I DID NOT SMACK HER THOUGH DON"T WORRY) You'll get cranky, but in the end when all those pups are on dry puppy food playing around you'pll feel so good you did it.
Good Luck!

The mom may have an infection if she fed them for the first few weeks and now doesn't want to feed them. Check with the vet and in the meantime, you will have to bottle feed them. You can get everything you need at PetCo or PetSmart. They need to eat every 3-4 hrs. or so. They will let you know cause they will cry.
Good Luck

First I would go to your vet and tell them what is happening. The mother dog might be hurting from the nursing puppies, or maybe she is rejecting them, you can't force her to nurse them because she won't. And you don't want her to get uncomfortable and stumble to get up from you forcing her to nurse them and have her step on them. You will probably have to bottle feed them with puppy formula. Your vet can give you some, you can also find puppy formula at your local pet store. Good Luck and I wish you the best.

My dog just had puppies 6 wks ago and stopped nursing at 3 weeks out of the 2 weeks has she fed them at all and just stopped that's what mine did she was starting the weening process early at 3 weeks they were licking a plate with milk and cereal mixed together. If it is her 1st litter just don't let her drink this mixture she will get diarrhea. Your puppies will be ok.

u r gonna have to feed them urself or they will die unless u can find a surrogate mom for them. that means a eyedropper , baby formula and feeding them every 3 to 4 hours religiously until they can eat on there on and that won't b for at least 3 weeks minimum. if ur lucky. do u have any idea why mom won't nurse. u had better consult the vet, maybe something is wrong with mom. good luck

I know what your talking about, all you have to do is feed them by a bottle, just go to a local pet store and get the right milk that the dogs can drink andd fed them that way, hope this helps.

the reason why she might of abandoned them is because you have your scent on them. it works the same way with birds. as what the other people above me said, the only thing you can do is to bottle feed them. each and every single pup should be fed every two hours and keeped warm, I used a heating pad for my liter of pups my dog had. when they are around a month old, get them on hard food and give them their first shots.
