my contractor told me to buy flat finish paint....because it will hide any imperfections...

When I was looking at paint finishes it said to paint kitchens with satin, gloss or semi gloss. They are easier to clean. Don't buy flat for the kitchen because it doesn't clean well. Good Luck

Any time you paint a room that will have moisture in the air (i.e kitchens and bathrooms) use an enamel base paint. This automatically means that use of a flat finish paint is not an acceptable alternative. Enamel paint is available in high gloss, gloss and satin type finishes. The finish that I prefer to use in a kitchen is the satin type. Satin finishes do not have the high sheen typical of gloss finishes and therefore does minimize the appearances of imperfections in the walls. (every wall has imperfections).

I just poured a ton of money into our kitchen and dinning room. We used semi gloss because it's easy to clean and still doesn't make the flaws stick out. We are very happy with it. Finding a "perfectly flawless" wall in any house is a rare find. Most contractors look at walls with a much more critical eye than you or I would do.

Gloss paint does show imperfections but is better suited for kitchens because it cleans easily. Flat paint is harder to clean but imperfections don't show up as much. It's up to you - see how bad the ceiling looks. Take a good look at it.
There is also a paint in between called usually "satin" which is in between.

If the partitions have not been painted in any respect, i could coat first with a flat latex primer and then i could use an oil base eggshell or semi-gloss. After approximately 7 years working interior the paint corporation and four years interior the army portray each thing and then appearing some paint contracting and remodelling artwork, i do no longer likely like latex paints - they're too puzzling to scrub spots off of. there's a topic with oil based paints, in spite of the undeniable fact that. there is oil in them and that oil will reason a average substitute in colour over the years. case in point, portray with white, you will be conscious a average cream colour after some years. as quickly as I had babies, I painted all the partitions in my domicile with flat alkyd oil based the teeth (complicated to get now), yet whilst the youngsters walked down the halls with a crayon, i ought to scrub it up in a minute, something you are able to no longer do nicely with latex.

NEVER NEVER get Flat paint! you can not wash it!!! A kitchen puts off alot on greese! you will want to wash the walls at least once a year! I bought a new house 1 year ago, every room in the house is flat paint! I have repainted my kitchen as little finger prints were all over the walls! the closest to flat paint is a Saton finish and it is washable,do that one!

for the ceiling you can use the flat but on the walls and trim you should use a semi gloss or gloss there more derible and washable and will hold up over time. under your cabinet you might want to consider put the back splash all the way up.

Semi-gloss, for sure. Flat paint is hard to clean & the high gloss paint will show up any imperfections. be sure to clean the walls & prime them, first. good luck & enjoy your new kitchen!

Flat paint is not washable, satin is. If there is lot of humidity in your area, or your home has a problem with mildew, use KILZ primer before painting with any paint. There are specialty formulated paints for high moisture areas, like bathrooms and kitchens, use one of those.
