Other than doing the sight seeing stuff, you would have fun around the village (W 4th street by F E and many other trains) They have a good mixture of culture and definately a younger crowd. there are hip jazz cafes and good places to hang out without spending too much money. Soho is a lot of fun to walk around, do some shopping and if you walk down broadway, you'll hit NYU, so there are a lot to do for your ages. (since there are more college students, food is not too expensive around campuses) oh...union sq. is also pretty good to walk around in..

Btw, you can always go to museums, MOMA or the Met are insightful. Have fun and explore~that's the best way.

Anywhere is good for 18-20 year olds.
Just go to Times Square.
