Do you think you are sacrificing to the devil if you pass out candy on halloween?

It would be a candy sacrifice and I am not foolish enough to believe this but a pastor I know mentioned that some churches teach it is a sacrifice to the devil to pass out candy on Halloween. For the record my shreklings will not be trick or treating but will be passing out candy to those who do :)

P.S. I call my kids shreklings because I cal my hubby shrek, fierce, hates the villagers and loves fiona (me) with all his heart. Oh, and my kids (4 of them) are all boys.

Well, of course not. And if that were true, my entire church would be "sacrificing to the devil" by having its annual Halloween fundraising carnival, where candy is passed out to young and old alike (and a lot of money is raised for charity).

No.

Did you know "sacrifice" means "to make holy?" Our normal understanding of sacrifice is just what involves killing. Typical of our twisted human mentality.

Halloween is a contraction for All Hallow's Eve. Which means the vigil (evening) before All Hallow's Day. All Hallow's Day celebrates all the Christian Martyrs without their own feast day.

The whole "trick or treat" thing evolved out of Guy Fawkes Day, which is November 5th. Kids in England would run around asking for a penny. "Penny for the Guy" so they could build Guy Fawkes in effigy and burn him. He was a Catholic. Catholics consider him a martyer. The English consider him a terrorist. They also considered Edmund Campion a terrorist and all he did was say mass. They killed him too.

Samhain is the old Druid festival that involved human sacrifice. So if a bunch of dudes in white robes show up at your door, don't give THEM any candy.

I am not sure what you mean by sacrificing but if you mean worshiping or giving in then yes I do. God states in the Bible that He is angered by our rituals and festivals. There is nothing in the Word of God that supports Halloween. I also think that it is sacreligious for churches to honor a holiday that began with pagans and condons the celebrtion of monsters and handouts. Unfortunately our society sees it as harmless and has accepted it as the norm. It is fun for kids but I am sure we could find something else that is fun and honors God.

Uh, no.

All right everyone, DO YOUR HOMEWORK and read about the actual history of Halloween. Enlighten yourselves a bit and quit taking the fun out of life.

When I pass candy out, I think I'm passing candy out. When I take my kids trick- or- treating, I think I'm taking them trick-or-treating.

When you sneeze, do you also believe that you are losing your soul?

Oh no! I better go pray, my black cat just crossed my path. What ever shall I do?????

By the way...FYI - SAMHAIN literally translates to "summer's end" and was celebrated on November first.

It was a celebration in an effort to bring the sun back and drive the dark cold winter away.

It was celebrated with bon fires and was a time for prayer and memory for loved one past.

No Satanism or human sacrifice was involved.

Just so you know, the girl below who mentions Samhain gave you false information...probably right from the mouth of her minister.

That is ridiculous. Halloween is a fun night for kids...to go around getting candy and dressing up in cool outfits. Nothing to do with the devil whatsoever!!

this whole thing is ridulous.noone thought this when I was a kid in the 50's and we where a lot more spiritual than the average person nowadays.

I have many fond memories of being a kid and filling up an entire grocery paper bag with treats as every house participated then (99 out of 100) and we did it for hours on end. I loved the homemade costumes my mom lovingly made for us and the one time I won a silver dollar for mine. This crazy thinking that it is of the devil would have deprived me of happy childhood memories.

My kids won over 2000 dollars in prizes and money winning best most original first place in all (but one) of the 5-7 contests we entered each year\ (2 kids so that's a lot of winning)

It was a great family time and chance for us all to brainstorm ideas for costumes, go shopping for supplies, help in making them, and discussing how to make them better and we had great fun going to the parks where they had these parties.

My grown son, once told me Halloween was his favorite holiday due to this surpassing even Christmas as a personal favorite.

. Listening to this foolish pastor would have deprived my children and I of many fond memories, family time, encouragement of creativity, etc.

None of us are into the devil and all are born again. od knows one's heart...plain and simple. He doesn't need to make innocent actiivites into grave sins as there are plenty of real sins to go around.

My own sister, the one with no mind of her own, deprived her own poor children of many great memories and fun in childhood. I speak to my neices who grew up in their church and they are very judgmental, unkind to many groups of people, racist, and hating of the poor, and non tolerant and my sister and brother-in-law have basically ruined them with their misguided thinking.

They don't see how far they are from the actual teachings of Jesus. My older neice has the same temperment as I do which is normally kind and caring and compassionate and empathetic and they totally and completely ruined and stifled and altered her once beautiful nature. So misguided.
