Your absolutely right, cuz no matter what age you are they are still gonna be overprotective. But believe me once you do hit that age, if you show them that you are mature, they back off a little bit.{but not all the way Lol} But remember if you live under your parents roof you have to abide by their rules, that's why I moved out when i was 18! But don't think moving out is the answer, you have to be able to support yourself. When I moved out I didn't go to college and worked 2 jobs just to be able to live. Depending on what age you are, if you really want to do things like highlight your hair, get fake nails, etc you have to show your parents maturity. Help out around the house, talk to them maturely about why you want these things and it's not to look older. Hopefully they'll see that your not a little girl anymore and give in a little. I hope I helped hun and good luck!

parents are still parents and we are ought to obey them no matter how old we get to and unless we are no longer under their roof we can start to be independent but the rule is still to obey. honestly, to have highlights won't make us look older but more fashionable but i've also never agreed to any highlights or colourings etc to our hairs simply reason it will definitely damage the hair in the long run. i've learn to be blessed the way i am.

At 18, they can't stop you. I'm 50 and my mom still tries to tell me what to do though. You will always be her little girl.

Ya, they treated me the same way and it annoys a lot when they treat you like a baby especially before friends and other family relatives.
