the other night it was purple dragonflies in the bedroom, other times it's been faces in the window. Part of my imagination I think - just out of dream mode. Do many other people get this?

Saying someone is weird is not very helpful or sensitive! I am still in my dream state though.

I cannot wake myself up - in answer to second comment. In fact I dream I want to wake up and get stuck in my dream - which is then a nightmare.

They are known as HYPNOGOGIC hallucinations and are perfectly normal, nothing at all to worry about.

yes this happened for many years. It no longer seems to trouble me at all now. I don't know if it really is because of the dream mode or not. There are so many things that we experience that are never really explained. I think the question I would ask is "does this scare you? " If not than don't worry about it.

there could be several reasons... i know because of personal experience
a) you're a creative person (when psychologists tests one to see how you interpret things, they give you a black and white "butterfly" looking picture, they usually ask u if you're artistic, if you are, they can't do the test because artistic or creative people "can create endless possibilities of visions" because we envision things by nature, other people try to acquire artistic skill by going to university, but a true arty / creative person has a natural ability to see that which is beyond the obvious. (sort of like a visionary but not necessarily in the true sense of the word).
b) it could be depression and anxiety (stress related)...depressed people tend to reach a level of paranoia where they sometimes imagine their situation to be worse than what it is. When I experienced depression in my early twenties i used to wake at night and imagine i see horrendous images contorting in front of me (i never had full blown depression to be quite honest, i've never had mental problems, in fact i've got an above average iq and i managed to acquire more than one university qualification...) but when i went through bad patches in my life, i used to go through periods where i couldnt stand the dark (when i'm home alone i always sleep with a light on...)
so...no. you're not weird, u experienced what some others do too, u're not alone, and no you're not insane. sometimes, when i experienced paralysis in my sleep (that where u want to wake up but can't even though you seem to be totally aware of an experience of being awake...or even an out of body experience whilst asleep / awake, but not dreaming either...) psychologists explain this is part of some sort of neurosis where depression plays a role in affecting your sleep patterns.

Once when i was on a school holiday i woke up in our room to see a weird shadow on the wall. My mate also saw it after i woke him but the curtains were pretty much closed. we couldnt explain it & i still dont know how it got there.

Strange but true

Yes, I had the same thing, which happened more when I was younger. I guess I kind of grew out of it...I think it's fine.

My best friend used to be able to wake up and "pause" her dreams. Then fall back asleep and continue where she left off. Maybe you have something like this. . .
Your trying to change the channel before you shut off the DVD.

Can you tell yourself to wake up before you open your eyes?
