It is metabolized through the liver. Chronic use damages the liver which prevents the liver from cleaning waste out of the blood. Alcoholics end up with alcoholic encephalopathy (brain damage), ascites, esophageal varicies (a potentially fatal condition that causes a person to bleed profusely from their esophagus), liver cancer, esophageal cancer ... and these are the chronic problems. Non chronic problems include depression, asphyxiation, unconsciousness, alcohol poisoning ... HTH

Since alcohol is poison and the liver filters out this poison the liver is taxed. The more it's taxed the shorter lifespan it has. This is why so many heavy drinkers die of liver disease even years after they stopped drinking. The liver does not recover or repair itself. Once it's used up, it's done.

Your body processes alcohol as sugar. (That's why diabetics can't drink!)
Alcohol is a major depressant. If you're blue, DON'T DRINK. It'll just make it worse.
Caffiene will not make you sober. It wil make you a nervous drunk.
