OF COURSE IT WOULD DEPEND ON THE MENTAL ILLNESS WE ARE DEALING WITH BUT THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS RESEARCH THE CONDITION AND THEN GO TO CAREGIVERS SEMINARS TO LEARN AS MUCH AS I COULD ABOUT THE DISEASE AND THE EFFECTS IT CAN HAVE ON NOT JUST THE INDIVIDUAL BUT THE FAMILY AS WELL AND BE PREPARED TO HANDLE THAT SITUATION, AND ALSO DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP FOR YOURSELF IN DEALING WITH THESES PROBLEMS AS THEY CAN BE AS OVERWHELMING FOR YOU AS MUCH AS FOR ANYONE INVOLVED. ALSO DON'T LOSE YOURSELF TO SOMEONES MENTAL DISORDERS KEEP YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT, IN ORDER TO BE STRONG FOR SOMEONE YOU HAVE TO BE HEALTHY YOURSELF

I don't talk about it with people who don't understand it. I talk a lot about it with people I met in a support group for families of the mentally ill. IF you want I'll be glad to send you my e mail address. My husband is bipolar and so was my mother

My brother-in-law is By Polar and believe me, it is hard to get family to understand how to deal with it. It has taken a lot and I mean A LOT of time to be able to recognize symptoms and know when he is going through what we call one of his "phases". And that is the best advice I can give you is time a patience. You can give family and friends as much info on the disease to help them understand, but until they deal with it a few times, it really is hard to understand.
We now know what to do and what to look for. You really have to stay on top of their medication because when they feel like they are well, they believe they don't need it......BUT THEY DO!! It is a life long process. Time and patience. And good luck.

i'm sorry you and your loved ones are dealing with that - you are going to be torn as you recognize if she is mentally sick that's no longer her fault and he or she's family contributors, yet then it rather is obviously bringing you all down. It sounds harsh to no longer help your loved ones yet to that end i could say that's okay to decrease your ties along with her as a final motel. She is the single refusing help - if there is not any way of having her to pass down that highway then that's no longer straightforward which you would be able to have your existence affected so very much by ability of a few thing you probably did no longer reason. don't sense responsible for it. If, such as you're saying, she is depressed one way or the different, then the end result on her of you no longer being there purely isn't as super because of the fact the end result on you in case you have been there for her - and that's what you are able to weigh up. you are able to desire to probable deliver her a letter each and every few months to enable her understand which you have no longer forgotten approximately her and nonetheless love her yet that till she is keen to help herself you purely can no longer enable her join your existence and drag you down once you are able to desire to truly be happy? you will get very offended listening to issues like that suggested approximately you and your loved ones, and it would torture you understanding which you would be able to no longer rather GET offended because of the fact that's the ailment conversing, yet which you nonetheless are. Or a minimum of thats how i could sense on your shoes. you have carried out ok getting this a techniques! desire you be waiting to style it out. Like I suggested, don't sense accountable. She has lived maximum of her existence, you have no longer, and there is not any rationalization why you mustn't. purely a theory yet is there any way of having her sectioned and dealt with against her will? i'm advantageous which you would be able to have in all probability seen that and carried out that if it became available yet i became purely thinking!
