Nutritionists advise on diet and how best to eat the foods that do your body the most good. They can put together plans for you to make sure you are giving yourself the best chance at good health, teach you how to take care of yourself and make good food, and give you skills which you can take with you all your life. If your doctor has recommended you see one, I'd say go for it. The doctor should have explained to you and your mom what a nutritionist does and how your attending one is the best thing for your health - perhaps ask him or her to sit down with you and your mom again and explain it more thoroughly. If you have an eating disorder, I reckon seeing a nutritionist is a great step towards getting well - good luck.

a nutritionist will help you asses your eating habits, and help you get the right amount of calories per day to balance yourself between what calories you spend actively in a day and what will continually burn after any exercise and to stay healthy.

this way you'll be able to maintain a good body weight that'll help you keep the excess weight off but yet keep you in a healthy mindset and not get caught up in things like bulimia (where you'll think you're not thin enough and set yourself up for unhealthy weight goals) because you had this disorder before, without it you'll fall right back into the trap again and a nutritionist will help you stay focused and not sllip back into the problem again

you're doctor is right to do this, because most people don't get the proper nutrition to stay healthy. plus you'll avoid problems such as heart disease and diabetes later from excess weight.
