He started vomiting early this morning. Mostly yellow bile but some food is also coming up. He is very mopy and sad like, he wont eat anything but he is drinking more water than normal. I may know what is causing the vomiting, We accidentally left a bowl full of chocolates out on the table and he ate about 35 pieces, wrappers and all!, But that was like 2 days ago, so Im not 100 percent positive its the cause. Please help me if you can, Thanks in advance.

I don't bundled my dog or b*tch into the car rush to the vet at the first sign of a sniffle or if a dog vomits grass that is regurgitated back onto my carpet (never outside!) or I can see something by poking through it (the icky things we do as dog owners) that its body rejected or a few times. Prolonged vomiting over a couple of days and that dog WILL be at the vet for a check up, because there is only so long I will allow a dog's digestive system to function abnormally and not want to know why. If vomiting combined with other clinical sings causes a higher degree of concern, then again the dog will be taken to the vet whatever time day or night that may be. In December 2011 my b*tch had been vomiting for two days, then her condition deteriorated and she began shaking, with her chest working hard and she was taken straight to the vet as an emergency. The diagnosis was septic peritonitis. I know when it's safe to wait and when to pick up the phone and tell the vet the dog is on its way in.

I don't want to alarm you but isn't chocolate poisonous to dogs? In that case it would affect the liver, hence the bile. Just call the vet and get advice. In general I give plain white rice to the dog if he has an upset stomache like that.

If he continues more than 24 hours from when he first vomited, take him in. He might need IV fluids to keep from dehydrating.
If he has diarrhea be especially vigilant. You can try some pepto bismal-- a vet told me to do this once-- use a dropper or a syringe with no needle.

This should hold you over for tonight. Since Chocolate is poison to dogs, I suggest you get him in to the vet in the morning.

The best thing to do is feed it dry chicken and rice 2-3 times a day. This is exactly what the vet will tell you if you ask one. I use it when my dog gets sick too. apparently rice is really good for them.
