The government will not start drafting for one simple reason. Drafted soldiers are simply no good when compared to a professional army and they just drag standards down.
If they can sort their tactics out and start fighting the way the U.S military is designed (ie around technology) there are more than enough boots on the ground.

I'd breath a sigh of relief! The military complex is not meeting quota. We are recycling veterans back into combat because we don't have replacements. We are losing combat veterans because they are leaving the service, not because of war, but because they don't get the proper recognition for their heroic efforts while they are in combat. The admission of felons and high school dropouts, is yet another big problem we are having with today's military. Sending the National Guard into combat is yet another sad testimony to our desperation in garnering combat troops. These people are no more combat ready than the crossing guard at the local grade school.
This is Donald Rumsfelds idea of fighting a war. What the hell is this guy going to do if we find the need for troops to stand up to Iran or N.Korea? We need new blood, and not just at the troop level, but at the command level, too!

I already served 6 years in the military but, if the draft came back, i'd happily go back in. Any male that flees is a coward. Even if you don't agree with why we're over there, this is OUR country. There ARE terror camps over there and we DO need to make it harder for them to find places to train. Not all decisions in history made by presidents were correct but, i'll still stand behind their decisions and keep this country the way it is for me today.

Cry, I seen it in the Vietnam war, all the soldiers on the train crying, I was a kid and two of my brothers and many family members were drafted, it's not a funny thing, like in the movies, but I would tell my kids not to run away, it hard but it every ones duty

I should not be surprised at all, but I do not care at all as I am too far away to get that great opportunity.
But I also feel pity for those young men, who is going to serve the country and risk their lives for absolutely nothing than to put more cold gold into the pockets of the warlords of USA. On the other hand you and I will pay the bills, one by one.

Join and fight for my country, I'm still considering joining the service anyway
Thou I hope we dont have a draft again, as it would mean there would be a war going on that would require one, and that'd be bad news for all parties involved

My niece is already serving, so she's taken care of. My one Nephew would join the Marines (which is making his mother crazed...tee hee..), by other Nephew would go ahead and join the Air Force early, he has plans of finishing college first before he joined, and the other nephew would probably wait to be drafted. I'm too old, but I would go back in the air force if they would let me.

i would be upset...my hubby is active duty so there is no worries there...but for the boys like my nephew who will be 18 in a few short years, it scares me...there isnt really anything i can do but hope and pray that they do not start the draft, and if they do, all i can do it pray that he and everyone else comes home safely

It wouldn't affect me because I am past draft age, but there would be much worse protests than there were during the Viet Nam era. There would be massive anger.
