I'm starting to wonder if I have MPD. I was wanting to know if someone has this and what you're doing for it and such.

Okay all of you who think it's just a joke...just stop. If you have nothing better to do go do something else! Don't waste your time and mine by being stupid.

Let me start off by saying that no, I do not have multiple personality disorder. I should also say that I'm am not and have never been a psychology student, but I do know a bit about the disorder. As far as I know, it's very very difficult to know if someone, including yourself, has this. It is EXTREMELY rare, and seems to stem from really really severe childhood trauma. I've heard different things about how it feels from the perspective of the person with the disorder, but I've mostly heard that they experience blackouts and will suddenly "wake up" in time or places that they don't remember going to. As I said, it is extremely uncommon, but if, for some reason, you think you may have it, I suggest seeing a psychiatrist asap. If you're experiencing blackouts, I suggest seeing a doctor, aswell.

Multiply personality disorder(also known as disociative identity disorder) is commonly confused with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Schizophrenia is characterized by hallucinations, as well as paranoia and other symptoms. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is characterized by severe and sudden mood swings. If you're experiencing either of these, I also suggest that you get to a psychiatrist.

I am a sociology major and have had some pychology too. There is no actual proof of anyone really even having this disorder, it is in many ways sort of a soft science scapegoat for not being able to diagnose what is really going on with the person, whether they are depressed or have repressed something from childhood deep down. There is a point where like in a kidnapping situation or rape or other really awful things where somebody can simply tune out something because it is too much for their though processes but MPD, I don't believe that it exists!

First of all, i want to say "you tell 'em girl"...some people on this site can be such assholes.

i really don't know too much about this disorder. have you been experiencing blackouts? people with this disorder have blackouts. have you seen the movie, "Sybil", with Sally Field? sally field's charachter had mpd. she had many different personalities living inside of her.

u should really consult a doctor or any other health professional. they can tell you more about mpd.....

good luck and best wishes

Ok.. 'been' diagnosed with this, but... to me personally, i dont know if it "truly" exists. I am Bipolar II, have been diagnosed since 1998. What i thought was MPD, i was told, is really no more than my "inner thoughts", or, "memories"... and my fears are manifesting themselves "as" another 'personality'. I would, at times, 'black out'... and when i 'came to', i would have a very hard time, coming back out of it. Still do sometimes, when i 'remember' what caused me to 'go there' in the first place. What i do for it 'now', is when i feel it coming on, i try to distract myself, wether it be at work, at home, out in public, or whatever.... distract yourself. It's hard to learn HOW to do, but if " i " can do it, it 'can' be done. I dont take meds.... tried that, and they just made things worse.... VERY 'worse'... "suicidal". So, i opted out (on my own) of taking meds. So far.. my 'tactics' are working for me.

you know that you where going to be hit with a bunch of jokes, and it wouldn't have mattered what forum site that you would have posted this question. the question would be best answered
though by a professional, i believe that mpd can occur, and i believe that you may have to see a doctor.

ok beano says no one has ever had this...but I disagree.

I know 2 people who had this issue... one i went to college with she was around 30...and one I used to work with was around 16...they both acted the same... they didnt just have really bad bood swings..but they actually had their "other self" names...it was odd being around them, because you didnt know "which person" they were going to be that day....Both of them were on medications for this. If I were you, do a little bit of research online....although sometimes the internet can scare you...(i have anxiety bad and the net has actually led me thinking i was dying of a heartattack when it was only a panic attack) I may also call a local physician.(or even non local if you are feeling embarassed by this)...tell them you just need some advice..tell them your age, height, weight, and symptoms...and they should be glad to offer some advice.I have done this with my anxiety before...when I first had panic attack I went to the er(big dummys) who couldnt diagnose me...but i called my primary care physician and told them all my symptoms, and they diagnosed me right over the phone (althought i had already figured it out by doing online research)

Good luck on this and I wish you nothing but the best...
