Hi Natasha,
While you are breast feeding you don't get a period. If you are bottle feeding you get a period around 4 to 8 weeks. Each women is different when it comes to getting your body back to normal.

But a word of advice and this advice could be helpful for anyone else who reads this. I was breast feeding my second child so I didn't have a period plus I was on the mini pill. One morning I forgot to take the mini pill, it wasn't till after dinner I remembered to take it.

Guess what? I now have 3 children. I thought that if you where breast feeding on the mini pill and didn't get a period you where not ovulating, boy! was I wrong. It happened not only because my husband and I got together, but because I was late taking the mini pill by 12 hours.

I have since found out it's not that all uncommon to fall pregnant while breast feeding. 14 months after the birth of my second child I give birth to a beautiful baby girl. It was one of the best accidents in my life that I have ever done.

Kind regards from down under and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

ps. did you have a boy or a girl

That depends on the woman and whether or not she breastfeeds. I didn't get my period for 15 months after giving birth to my daughter and so far haven't gotten it in the six months since my son was born.

Some people don't get a period until after they're done breastfeeding..others get it back right away. I breastfed each of my kids and had my period back a month to the day after having them. It sucked.

Assuming she does not breastfeed at all, typically 6-8 weeks. But there could be variation, just depends on the woman.

I got mine when my daughter was 6 months old, and the next one was two or three months after that. She's now almost 18 months old, and I still haven't got my normal cycle back. I guess it'll return properly when I have stopped breastfeeding totally.

If you are breastfeeding it could be 18 months or more. If formula feeding probably about 6 weeks after your postpartum bleeding stops.

It's totally different for everyone, and breast feeding doesn't always have something to do with it. My friend used formula, her baby is 12 months old, and she still hasn't had a period.
