Exactly what it says it is: a piercing on the surface of your skin. An eyebrow piercing is one, as is the nape of your neck (i've had both). Some people also get them on arms, back, cheek. In its simplest term, it's a piercing that goes in and out on the same side of something (the skin) instead of through it like an ear piercing does.

The diffrence between a "regular" pierceing and a surface is this,
when you get a regular, it's going through one part of flesh like your ear and comeing out the other side. The thing about a surface is, it is more like "sewing" the curved needle is inserted into the skin lifted slightly and pushed out . Like, in, up, down, out.

Something less regular than an ear or nose. A good example is the base of your neck...or...Think of sticking a safety pin through your skin (kinda odd)...but it goes in and has to come out...two holes rather than on puncture from one side to the next...like ears or nose. Other common examples of surface piercings include: eyebrow or belly...
