"I agree that there should be peace. But, people are people and peace can not be found in one who does not believe in Jesus."

Read this quote on this sight about an hour ago. Do people agree with this and why? Personally I think its disgusting that there are people in the world who think like this.

Anyone who got the wrong idea, I'm not a christian, I didn't say the quote, just read it. Plus I don't hate god, I just don't believe in him.

I have never once had Jesus in my life and I'm doing just fine.

To everyone else who doesn't quite get it: The reason that quote is disgusting is because it implies that someone can't find "inner peace" with Allah or Zeus or any of the East Asian or Native American religions, or any of the thousands and thousands of other religions that people believe in. It's a fancy way of saying, "Only Christianity is the right way -- all other ways are wrong." You really can't blame people for finding that kind of statement arrogant and rude.

First thing, the reason that there isn't peace is because of men's selfishness. Break it down anyway you want to it is our selfishness that keeps us from being at peace with others. Doesn't matter if it is on a personal level or the level of countries. Facts are facts and facts and we are selfish.

The statement that the only way to have true peace is to have Jesus is not fully correct. In fact Jesus said that we would be hated for his name. That doesn't sound like peace does it?

How ever the fruits of the faith full believer is peace, love, joy, happiness but they are not things that we receive but others are suppose to see from us. In other words we that truly believe are suppose to give that peace, love, joy happiness to others. It is what we give not what we get. If those who called themselves Christians actually practiced the teachings of Jesus then these things would show and they wouldn't even have to say a word.

If Christians spent more time practicing the teachings of Jesus, things like putting others before yourself, treating others in the manner in which you want to be treated yourself, Having compassion (concerned passion, concerned love) for others, then peace would come out. Why, simple, we would practicing selflessness instead of being selfishness.

Besides which is more believable, some one that claims to be a Christian but their actions say otherwise. Or someone who faith fully believes, tries to live by the faith and never make any claim but lives the example of Jesus?

Peace is not what you get in the faith but by faith it is what you are suppose to give.

I tend to agree with that statement but it's a half-formed thought. True peace can only be found through a relationship with Jesus because all other roads are dead ends. There is no sufficient conclusion because other roads seek conclusion in the wrong place. In Jesus the answer lives now and forever and provides the key to understanding where all others fail to reach.

Peace can not only be found in one who does not believe in Jesus, it can thrive there! Of all the religions of the earth, I sincerely believe those traditions that have come out of the middle east to be the most divisive and less apt to lead to peace. The 'big three' middle eastern religions of christianity, islam and judaism all pretty much teach that they are the only 'right' way.

How can you ever have peace when three groups of people, all worshipping the same god (who christians claim was here in human form as Jesus) are determined to convert or annihilate anyone who doesn't agree with them (in extreme cases) or condemns them to a lake of fire (the not quite as bad ones)?

How can you ever have peace without tolerance? How can you ever have peace in the face of condemnation and judgment? How can you ever have peace without love of your fellow man, whoever he or she may be? How can you ever have peace without respect for another's beliefs?

Jesus may be the road to peace for some, but for others he is an excuse used to wage war, discriminate against their fellow man and commit murder. While Asatruar are not an entirely peaceful lot, we certainly do not use our faith as an excuse to attack others. I find that type of behavior not only to be counterproductive in the quest for peace, I also find it to be truly offensive. And I'm sure Jesus would, too.

I truly believe pure, inner peace is beyond any formal religious stucture, or even a single key person. Perhaps with Christians it is different, since Jesus is supposed to be God, but when I find myself closest and most subservient and most connected with God, I have no one in mind except Him, as Perfection, Absolute Knowledge, something beyond imagination, of which I am but a single humble insignificant creation of millions of types and billions of specimens. When religion turns into that sort of meditation, it puts into perspective the greatness of God, without the hindrance of rules and regulations, do's and don'ts.

Don't get me wrong, I am a devout practicing Muslim. These do's and don'ts, such as fasting, prayer, modest dress, abstaining from drinking, etc... are all meant to be a better person, to strengthen community and support belief. But true belief is much stronger than any ritual. That is why I am still a Muslim, even though I have free access to any other religion I choose. To me, faith is complete submission to God physically and spiritually, to recognize one's place in the vast universe, and appreciate the small things that fill our lives.

Only then will you get true peace.

I'm in complete agreement with you. It seems that the people who believe in Jesus or some form of 'God' are the people that create the most mayhem by trying to force others into believing that peace can not be found in one who does not believe in Jesus/God and deciding how its best for these other people to live and how to punish or force them into change. Maybe theres far too much time spent on 'inner peace' and not enough on getting on with your life as harmoniously as the bible tells them too and actually improving the world we live in.

There are many people who live in peace that are not christians. It is christian arrogance to think that their way is the only way. The bible contradicts itself and can be used in any fashion a person sees fit to promote their own agendas. We can use the bible to promote war when it says do not kill, we use the bible to steal lands from the weak and humble when the bible says thou shalt not steal, etc. Remember that peace comes from within not from something outside of you. Religious beliefs are outside influences that seek to control us and will never result in peace. Peace is a failing commodity and anyone that has peace does not get it because of beliefs they get from others but from the discovery of peace within themselves. Peace is self-enlightenment not fulfilling others ideas about religions. Peace comes from the heart not a book.

I feel "at peace". Im not saying that I dont believe in God or Jesus, I just believe in a higher power, and it could be God or Jesus, I just dont think that they are who make me "at peace".

A pretty narrow-minded mindset that you can find in whatever faiths or beliefs are out there; "the world would be a better place if only everyone believed the same things I do". Athiests who claim that the world would be better without religion are, essentially, saying the same thing.

Somewhere in Mtthew, I believe in Chapter 10, Jesus said he didn't come to bring peace. SO, with THAT understanding. Just pray to God, that Jesus come soon!
