i started around 1.5 years old with my son..that was a little soon and he wasnt ready but not too shortly after that, around 1 year and 10 months, he came up to me and said that he had to potty and he went to the toliet and did it all by himself...he has been using the potty ever since..
i dont know what advice to give you about her holding her urine..have you tried the rewards system...its like you are kind of bribe-ing them....make a little chart, every time she sits or pees on the potty, put a sticker up...or give her a small piece of candy...

Unfortunately, there is not magic age to start potty training, every toddler is different. In addition, they pretty much master it when they are ready. My youngest was the opposite, she'd do #1 on the potty, but didn't do #2 until really late. One thing that did help the #1 was putting her on the potty every half hour and run water while she's on it. By having her there so often, she's bound to go, and then praise and reward her when she does.

I started my daughter at 1 just letting her sit o the potty and telling her what to do. We did this and got slowly more serious about it as time progressed. She was potty trained by 2.

Don't push her. I work in a child care and a lot of the kids that are pushed into potty training when they are not ready will have a real hard time. A lot of them have even gone back to have accidents after being trained for a couple on months. Wait until she shows signs that she is ready. Just go with your gut, you'll know when she is ready.

A good age to start potty training is...to do it sooner than later...
try getting her to drink water while she's on the potty...
or ask your doctor about it...or tell her that it's bad for her to hold her pee...(its not alie...its true....she can get kidney stones...but at an older age)
GOOD LUCK
=)

I found trying to potty train too soon is just frustrating. I wouldn't even try before age 2. She will when she's ready.
