In England a Muslim woman was fired from her grade school teaching job for wearing a full islamic outfit (incl. face veil). Now there's a debate in England whether this was right to do.

I say that in a country that has church & state seperate it is wrong to bring religion into the classroom, and if one was to present religion in a classroom, it should be the religion of the country, the religion the country has had since one can remember... in this case - Christianity, not a foreign religion.

What say you?

Your question is wrong it should read "why do some muslim women wear the veil" as the majority throughout the world do not. Islam like Judaism and Christianity is a Patriarchal male dominated religion and women wear headdress and veil, rightly or wrongly, as a sign of being the perpetrators of original sin as outlined in the Old Testament, which is pertinent all three. In short it is a sign of male domination.

Just be fair, if you are not muslim and you live in muslim country, you cannot even go to church or admit you are not muslim because they will discriminate, hate and harash you. Worse case you will got killed. There is no equal law between non muslim and muslim in the muslim country

So do you think muslim in England need to be great full because they can live and go to the mosque free. That they have right same as Christians. That most of the Christians do not discriminate, harash and hate them.

Muslims they can do what ever do want but in their community. They cannot bring out muslims out of their community because that is not right.

To my knowledge all western governments are secular !!

The answer is : They claim it's a secular government and all people should exercise their religion freely, then it should not be the opposite!!

English people should fight for the freedom in their country because freedom can not be divided . Today Muslim women veil and tomorrow your own freedom. So, don't be happy with such compromise on your country freedom. It is alarming.

I think it would be a distraction to the students. Could you listen seriously to someone wearing a paper bag over their head? It isn't much different.

i say
if she was a good teacher .... does it matter what she wore ?

i think children need to learn respect and tollerance and in firing this woman due to her cultural preferances is not the right way to go about that
