Hello I have 5 cages of zebra finches even crested white. (they do come in a variety of colors as well as crested)

Young finches might lay eggs but they aren't fertile. Even finches that aren't in pairs will lay eggs. When they are about 3 months old they will lay a clutch. Anywhere from 3-8 eggs. Usually about 2 - 4 hatch. They do not all hatch on the same day. They stagger giving the parents a chance to tend to the chick.

There is a special mash feed that you can get that is great for finch parents feeding there young. They are generally great parents and you usually don't need to help them at all. They are so tiny hand feeding isn't really an option (I have had no success at it).

I have handled them and placed them back in the nest when they have fallen out.

In about 7-10 days there eyes open, in about 3 weeks they are fully feathered. At about 4 weeks there beaks start to turn orange and an experienced bird person can then tell sex.

You can make strips of paper towel or get commercial nesting material that they can use to build a next.

E-mail me if you want.

PS>>>>If the eggs don't hatch in 21 days they won't. Just get rid of them and prepare for the new clutch. Usually once they start incubating them it takes 18 days to hatch. Often the pair won't start incubating until all there eggs are laid, others may start incubating with the first egg.

Zebra finches require a finch nest. Males have orange cheeks and a red beak. If you don't have a good male then you might not get any babies. Males do terrible things, like kicking the hatchling's out as soon as thy hatch out of the egg. All eggs do not hatch on the same day, just like they are not all laid on the same day. They are laid a day or so apart so the babies in the nest will be different sizes. The feistiest ones get fed first. The pair does all the work. All you have to do is watch. We have customers on a regular basis who are able to raise too many zebra finches. We try to buy as many as we can because we like to buy from locals first. Society finches are good at setting on the eggs of other birds if the zebra finches do a lousy job but society finches cost more. Best of luck to you.

Sometimes they'll lay an egg and then another a few days later. I'll find an egg one day and when look again a few days later there may be as many as 3 other ones. Zebra finches multilply easily....sometimes too easily.....watch out what you wish for unless you plan on selling them or giving them away.

Zebra finchs lay eggs every other day.So you just have to wait for more. Plus They don't sit on the eggs till at least the 3rd is laid. This way the babies will hatch on the same day.

Male Zebra Finches have bright orange cheek patches, whereas the females don't. Males tend to be more colorful.

get them a nest to put in the cage and let them do there thing including taking care of it, that's what they do.
also u may want to consult a bird vet unless u know for certain that the people at the bird store know exactly what they r doing and saying and r not just kids making some money.
