I'd go with the canned beans. It saves a great deal of time and trouble, and the end result--cooked beans--is the same.

It depends, canned beans have a little more flavor right out of the can but it might not be the flavor you want. Dried beans are a little more work but are great if you're going to bottle the chili because they won't overcook as easily. I'd suggest trying quite a few types to find out what works for you and your purpose.

Canned. The dried beans must be cooked partially first so they are cooked all the way through when the chilli is done. Hence, one more step in the kitchen and more time spent cooking which no one wants to do!

Either work perfectly fine, but if you use dried ones you need to soak them over night and precook them before using them in the Chili. It's really easier to just use canned because they both taste exactly the same but one takes a lot more work:)

In Texas, we have chili and we have beans. We cook the beans separately and serve them on the side. Real hearty chili shouldn't have beans in it.

I buy canned "chili beans" to use for easy quick chili. I just add them right at the last so they don't get soggy or mashed.

None. Beans do not belong in chili any more than pasta does. Meat and Red. Period.
