My cakes NEVER come out, my cookies aren't that great either. Texture, flavor is never right. I usually cream butter and sugar in a Cusinart (like tiny food processer) & do the rest by hand (but I am careful not to overmix).

I don't really want to spend hundreds on a mixer because I only bake a few times a year (but I love to bake) and no one else in my house will use it.

So could that be the reason why everything doesn't taste as good as when someone else (bakery) does it?

I have been cooking for 27 years for my family. I have never used a kitchenaid or expensive mixer. Most of the time with cooking and baking , you need to use the correct measurments. if your are off it will ruin the whole thing. I cream butter and sugar in a bowl. Just till it is fluffy. only use a spoon. wooden works best.

No, you don't need an expensive mixer! I bake from-scratch breads, cakes, cookies, pastries, etc., they're always wonderful, and I've never had a stand mixer. I do all my mixing by hand (including creaming butter & sugar) unless I need to beat egg whites, or with some cakes, in which case I use a hand-held electric mixer (you can get one for under $10). You can basically mix anything by hand; just make sure you mix thoroughly, liquids together (use a wisk for the liquids if you're mixing a cake by hand), dry ingredients together, then blend well. The more you bake, the better it will become! Keep it up!

I consider Kitchenaid ..Cuisinart are the highest two however there are a few well manufacturers in the market..I consider it is dependent upon what you desire in a stand mixer.......I was once watching at studies final night time...I've had my eye on a Kitchenaid for decades..however simply an excessive amount of to spend on an equipment I use every so often I have a Cuisinart hand mixer...I noticed a evaluate for a Rival bought at Walmart..underneath $50.00..If you exchange it two times it's nonetheless lower than the highest rated mixers... Hope this is helping.....

you definitely don't need a fancy expensive kitchenaid, I have a sunbeam electric mixer that was just under $100 and it works fabulous! I bake probably 3-4 times a week. Don't use a food processor though, if you don't want to buy a mixer just use a wooden spoon. Hand mixers are really inexpensive... like $20, they ork just as well.

There could be dozens of reasons why things don't turn out exactly right. Use fresh butter or margerine, think about using self rising flour if you have trouble with the baking powder not getting mixed in right and remember it's an art. That translates to work at it as often as you can and you will make a lot of mistakes and then you will be so good everyone will love you.

Buy a hand mixer, it does a much better job than by hand, and saves you time by making the job easier and faster! They're much cheaper than a Kitchen Aid, and if you find you use it a lot, you can always upgrade to a Kitchen Aid later. I have both, I used the hand mixer for years (even to make mashed potatos). I now have a Kitchen Aid and it's much easier but also more money. So start with one and then see how it goes!

Good luck!

I think you just need a good recipe .. and experiment. You don't need the expensive mixer, I believe an inexpensive hand mixer does just fine, and you can get those for next to nothing at garage sales and second hand thrift stores.

The best cookbooks come from churches that make cookbooks for money raisers. check out rubylane.com for some great vintage cookbooks with great recipes.

You dont "need" a Kitchenaid mixer, but they are nice to have as they connect to many many other tools as well and being of excellent quality. as for your cookies, its probably your pan, try an air bake pan. spend at least 15 bucks on one. heat transfer is everything. good luck on the cakes.

My mom was a great baker......and she did all from a hand mixer only. I think the new things just make it a lil easier. Great yummy recipes can be created without all the new fangled tools...bake on!!!
