2 weeks to 3 months after you quit your circulation will improve & the functioning of yor lung also gets better so from a purely physical standpoint you can run for the bus, hell you can go to the gym & perform without embarrassing yourself so much...
if you stay quitted - is quitted a word?- if you stay non smoking for 1 to 9 months you can enjoy the fact that coughing and shortness of breath decrease cilia (tiny hair like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, & from a physical standpoint this improves your quality of life because it increases the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection
If you make it to 1 year without smoking you don't have to worry so much about getting coronary heart disease it'll be half that of a smoker's.
5 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker 5-15 years after quitting.
10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smoker's. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreas also decrease.
& physically all this is good for you 'cos you get peace of mind
& you can plan for the future -physically- without looking at your cigarette & wondering "what if?"
By your 15th anniversary of not being a smoker your risk of
contracting coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmoker's.
now how's that for a good rason to quit from a purely physical standpoint?

Are you really needing an answer to this question, aside from the obvious? Smoking puts you at increase risk for:
cancer, heart disease, emphysema, premature/low birth weight babies, etc. It can also give you yellow teeth, bad breath and decreased circulation in your hands and feet (nicotine is a vasoconstrictor)
The real question is, is there any good reason for smoking? Nope!

Smoking:
Gives you bad breath
Stains your teeth yellow
Gives you premature wrinkling ("smokers face")
Can lead to sexual dysfunction in men (can't get an erection)
Can lead to cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, etc.
Can lead to lung cancer
Increase rates of sinus infections, allergies, and colds
Can lead to bladder cancer
Can lead to peripheral vascular disease..and lead to getting your legs amputated
Reduces your stamina, energy
...but these are just a few reasons, off the top of my head...

The tar and carbon can build up in your lungs and harden them, making it nearly impossible to breathe, and greatly increase your chances of getting emphasema. Also, it increases your chances of getting cancer in numerous parts of your body because it reduces your body's ability to fight off foriegn bodies. It lowers oxygen absorbtion, which can kill off brain cells as well as muscle tissue. Not only that but it makes it difficult to keep your teeth clean, which can cause gum disease.
