I'm 27 and am moving from California due to a new job. I own a home in the Los Angeles area and don't want to sell. I plan on renting it out and living with my dad for up to a year in the new city to save money and buy another home.

You are never too old to live with your parents as long as you are willing to respect their rules (use you will be back in their domain) contribute willingly to the cooking, cleaning and finances (it is the only way to have leverage as an adult in the house) and overall be relegated back into a routine (the kid in the family) that you haven't been in for a while.

The question isn't are you too old, but rather are you ready to morph back to a time in your life that may or may not have been the most powerful.

I would suggest that weigh the pros and cons of doing this...and give yourself (and your parents) a timeline for leaving the dear old homestead. This will help them and help you to maintain a mature and respectful relationship while you search and save for your new home.

Good luck.

As long as your Dad is ok with it, it sounds like a good idea so that you can maximize your savings to get your own place. A big caution--both of you sit down and discuss the arrangement (so you will both know what is expected). You shouldn't expect to live there rent free. You should work out a reasonable plan for money, chores, and other factors before you settle in. Also, put a time limit on your stay (you say a year) - that doesn't mean that it can't be longer, but set a goal and then stick to it. Good luck.

As long as you are planning on moving out, and if you don't inconvenience him any then it should be alright. Just don't be disrespectful to his home. Live everyday there as if you were an extended visitor, carry your own weight, and know that he is doing you a favor. Even though he is still your dad, you have already left the nest so anything they do after that you really have to appreciate, because they don't have to do it, but they do it because they love you.

I am 35 and If I could I would still move in with my dad, because he was cool and laid back and I love him so much. We get along better than when I was young. I don't see anything wrong, I lived with my dad until I was 27 and my son was 6yr. and loved him so much. Just as long as he gives you your space and privacy go for it.

No youre being a responsible woman. While youre saving you can help your dad as well. Enjoy the move and make sure the renters dont tear you house up.

Your never to old to live with your parents. If you pay your own way and clean up your messes then I'm sure he'll enjoy having you there. Sometimes you need your family to help you out.Thats what family is for.I wish you all the luck.

Depends.

Are you going to pay your fair share of the load? Or, do you expect to freeload off him?
