I have a show quality Akita with a good tight tail curl and perfect face. She will be able to breed in about one year and I would like to know ahead of time if there are any reliable breaders in the duluth minnesota area that I can contact. I am only interested in other show qualitys that are akc registered...

No - I repeat NO show breeder will let you breed your female to their dog unless:

(1) She has accumulated points towards her championship to esatlbish her quality

(2) She comes from a very good family with lots of red type (Championships) in the first 5 generations

(3) She passes all the health checks - hips, elbows, eyes, cardiac, thyroid etc

You saying that she is "show quality" or your vet saying it won't cut it with the owners of show dogs.

Doesn't your breeder have any suggestions? She would know your dogs bloodlines the best.

Here is the link to the AKita Club of America - the breed club recognized by the AKC

In there your will find a breeders list:

Here is the Breeders Code of Ethics by which they all abide:

Do you mean you are looking for a future stud?

There are many Akita breeders in the twin cities, that is not very far. Go to some shows and meet breeders. There is a big show in the TCs in January (and many others in the spring), and also the Duluth show in July.

Is your ***** pointed? Haven't you met other Akita people at shows? If you haven't shown her, how do you know she is show quality? You will have a hard time breeding to a really good stud if she hasn't been pointed, most breeders would not let you use theirs unless she at least has her majors. If you are interested in getting involved in showing, contact the Duluth Kennel Club, they will have classes and other dog people willing to help you out.
