Be grateful someone thought enough to give you a gift. What gets me nowadays,is that people will actually DEMAND what they want for Christmas.
This is not only rude, but tacky.

Likely. I try to suggest an inexpensive gift that I really want if I am asked by my family. Also, I buy gift cards at stores that I know for a fact my family and friends like to shop at and have the kind of products they like.

I accept gifts gracefully. Since I am very hard to buy for, I understand the issue for the gift giver. I have regifted items, but carefully.

I DO give those away. My partner and I usually get a set each at company Christmas parties. We swap gifts and give them to our coworkers the next year. It works great.

Yes. You should be allowed to register for Christmas presents. :) The best way to avoid that, however, is to give hints to people that are close to you of a variety of things that you might want. Many people agonize over what to get people because they really don't know what they would want, so giving them hints makes life easier for everyone.

I finally told my family that I have enough cologne and perfume to last me long after my death. I have unopened bottles of all kinds of stuff. One year I wrapped individual, unopened ones and gave as gifts at work... (We're talking Elizabeth Taylor, Chantilly, Jean-na-Tate (sp), and I don't remember what all).

I have. I just say thank you, write the person a thank you note and then I re-gifted it. What one person doesn't like, someone else might.

My uncle always gives me ugly clothes, that look like he bought them at a thrift store. I just take them to Goodwill.
