1. It removes responsibility. You're no longer responsible for figuring things out - the answers are given to you. You're not responsible for anything that happens - it's god's will.
2. It makes you feel better to believe that bad things are happening for a reason. You'll probably never know what it is, but it's all part of a bigger plan.
3. It can make life more bearable if you believe that after you're dead, it'll all be rosy.

It also makes people feel loved and special. There is someone that looks just like you, is very powerful, hates all the same people you do and loves you very much, so much that it wants you to talk to it and and ask it questions every day. How god damn special is that?

Because life would seem pretty pointless if when we died it is just lights out! I think religion keeps people happy, life is very depressing. We have to have something to look forward to.

It doesn't so I don't. All though I am agnostic, I don't need to ask for anything, everything that I actually need is already here. Everything else I have to work for on my own.
