It means when someone slaps one side of your butt, let them slap the other cheek.
Seriously, I think it's supposed to mean don't be vindictive. Of course I've always interpreted it as "hey, if someone's going to walk all over you, lay down and let them". Not the best advice I've ever heard.

If you read closely you see that he says if someone strikes your RIGHT cheek turn to him the other also.
In order to hit someone on the right cheek you have to either hit them with your left hand or backhand them.
Something you need to understand is that 2000 years ago it was considered a very disrespectful thing to touch someone with your left hand because culturally that's what you used to wipe your bum. Also back handing someonewould have been hugely disrespectful because that's how you treat an inanimate object - slapping it out of your way.
Just picture if someone hits you in the right cheek and you turn them the other (left cheek). What are they gonna do?
They are going to make a fist with their right hand, and really pull back to hit you as hard as they can.
The idea of turning the other cheek was to get them to do this and shame them into realizing how they had just disrespected you by hitting your right cheek.
It's a passive agressive way of making someone think about their actions.

when one strikes you it results in a demeaning manner such as a master to a slave when one turns the other cheek the one striking is performing the act as an equal not as a demeaning gesture

What the basic idea behind that is to be slapped properly, with the right hand. Left is synonymous with sinister or evil. He is saying give people the respect they deserve, even when you are insulting them. We should not be punching bags.

A slap is not intended to hurt; it is intended to insult. Jesus was implying that we should not retaliate when others treat us disrespectfully.

Don't react violently to the one who is evil. Don't react in kind, don't mirror your enemy, don't turn into the very thing you hate.
