I bought them online and it's not worth the cost and effort to return them. They are nice looking shoes, but rub my heals when I walk. Right now I have them in our clothes dryer on air dry, hoping the tumbling will help.
Have you had experience with neats foot oil or other softening products. Will they work for shoes?

Get a bottle of baseball glove softner and rub it in as directed, then wear them say an hour or two per day this will help you break them in better.

Softening Leather Shoes

The one thing that I've found to work on leather shoes is a little uncomfortable but breaks them in well is wearing the shoes with wet socks. Do this while you're at home, just wear the shoes around the house with wet socks. Like I said, feels a little uncomfortable but a couple hours of that and they feel much better.

There's actually a leather softener, it's sold next to other shoe products in any supermarket. It's a liquid that you pour inside your shoes it's cheap and it doesn't ruin leather shoes..

I would suggest a shoe tree to stretch them along with a relatively warm, yet slightly moist place to store them (so as to not have them dry out and crack). I would also find a leather softner from a reputable men's shoe store.

Use saddle soap, you can find it in the shoe polish section of any store. It's very useful for both softening and cleaning shoes.

two methods i have heard of (though i doubt you will try)

1. blood...no really...a friend of mine whilst stopping a robbery got blood all over a new leather jacket ~ softened it up a treat

2. heard this from an army guy (he may have been kidding but i dont think so) he told me the best way to soften new army boots was to place them in a bath of water and urinate in it (the urea apparently softens them ~ and the extra water protects against a smell)

apart from that i can only suggest vaseline ~ softens and waterproofs ~ which is my usual method

Get them soaking wet and walk in them until they're dry.
