hello, i have a question. We recientally purchased a puppy who ended up at the vet 2 days later and died two days after that. We are deep in vet bills now, and the vet says that she was sick before we bought her. My question is is the breeder responsable for atleast half of the vet bills? She has offered the money for the puppy OR another puppy (the vet said the rest would most lilkey be ill soon to with the same thing) but thats it.

First, get your money back for the puppy. In cash, preferably.

Then, tell the breeder that you believe it would be fair to split the bills 50-50. It would help a lot if your vet would write out what was wrong with your puppy and that he or she believes the rest of the litter is probably affected, too.

If the breeder refuses, let them know you intend to take them to small claims court. You have a good chance at getting at least half returned, if not all.

I'm sorry to tell you that your puppy likely came from a puppy mill or an uneducated breeder. A responsible breeder would have already offered to pay.

Please consider adopting a pet from your local shelter, or use the American Kennel Club website to locate a breeder if you are set on a purebred dog.

I am sorry for your loss. Regardless of the circumstances, it's still tough.

Yes the breeder is responsible. If you can prove that the puppy was ill when you bought it, then the breeder would give you the money back or another puppy. The other puppies are not neccesarily ill like the one you bought. If you decide to get another puppy, take it to the vet immediately and if they say that it is seck as well....return it and get a full refund as well as the cost of the vet bills. If the breeder refuses, then take them to court. Don't worry, you will win. Good luck. I hope it all works out for you.

I think that she should be responsible for part if not all of your vet expenses if the vet can properly diagnose that the puppy had been sick longer than 2 days.

Call your local courts and see about the proceedings to take that vet to civil court so you can get your money back! I bet you have a really strong chance of winning as long as you have the vet there or at least proper documentation.

She should be because she should have informed you about her disabilities and illnesses the puppy had before you purchased her. If you're ready for another dog, then take up that offer. Or if you think this experience has been too traumatic, then accept the money.
