Now is a good time. Just don't get too many. And never charge something if you don't have enough money to pay it off. It takes a long time to get out of credit card debt because most people just pay the minimum due. It would be good to charge things on your card and pay them off at the end of the month. That will help get you higher credit limits and a higher credit score. Look for a credit card that has no yearly fees. Maybe start out at a department store or Target. You could also try something like CapitalOne.com. Remember:

Not too many cards
Don't charge more than you can pay off
Keep using it to show you are a good credit risk (for the future, like mortgages)
If you have to eliminate one eventually, keep your oldest one. It shows a long credit history for you

Get a credit card from a gas station. Use it to fill up your tank. Pay off the balance monthly and you will show responsibility to pay your debt.

I would go to a Credit Union if you belong. Otherwise, get an application at your current bank.

Yes, go through your bank.

If you're in school they'll give you one most definitely.
