Depends on the amount and time of consumption. I'm told age also plays a role.

It depends on how used to caffine your body is.
If you regularly drink coffee or soda then it will not affect your body the same as a person who consumes no or very few caffinated beverages/products.
I do not "use" caffine, so if I drink a 20 oz Coke at 8 am, I will still be feeling the effects of it at 3am the next morning. My sleep pattern will be changed, and I will not be able to get to bed at my usual time. I am a pastry chef who gets up at 3:45am and is in bed by 8pm.
My roommate on the other hand has at least 2 cups of black coffee a day. She can conk out at 8 with me (after taking a nap on the couch), and get up and 3:45am when my alarm goes off. She has breakfast, hops in bed for a couple more hours, then heads off to work. If she doesn't have caffine, she gets cranky and gets a headache.
Studies have been done using No-Doze tablets (the "stay-awake" drug) and some are helped and others show no signs of it working.
So you see, it is all in how your body metabolizes caffine. There are no set time limits on how long it will keep you awake. If you want it to keep you awake longer, stop using for a while so it is out of your system, then use it in smaller targeted doses.
Good luck!

Caffeine does not keep me awake. I have had quite a bit of caffeine in the past couple of hours and I am having a hard time trying to stay awake. One time, I had a Jolt cola, which has double the caffeine and double the sugar, and I was a sleep half an hour later.

varies form person to person and depends upon how often you drink it For me, a teacup full of coffee will keep me up for about 4 hours. Anything more than that usually gives me a headache and makes me really jittery.
