How hard are the requirments to get into 21B in the Army (Combat Engineer)? It has an enlistment bonus, its very low, but their still is one; So is that because the requirments are too high or not enough people are going into that MOS?

-The PUHLES is 111221
-You have to score a 90 in CO on the ASVAB

Are either of these hard requirments?

--Thanks

My son's MOS is 21B. He's been in the Army National Guard about a year and a half. It is considered a critical MOS, or at least it was when he enlisted, so that's probably why there's an enlistment bonus. AIT was very physically demanding; my son said much more so than Basic Training. You should know that 21B deals with explosives rather than construction; some people are unclear on that. My son's SFC said the only bridge he's built in his career was in AIT. So, for obvious reasons, it's a dangerous job in combat. You'll be the one going in there to clear the way for everybody else, either by marking the location of unexploded ordnance or disposing of it. Not a lot of call for that in the civilian world, unless maybe you go into law enforcement & get on a bomb squad with a large department.

No. This is not a hard MOS to get into, but as a combat arms MOS, it is very physically demanding. There is a great need for ALL combat arms soldiers with the war going on. If you want to serve your country as a combat engineer, go for it. Keep in mind there is not much demand for the skills of a combat engineer after you get out of the army.
