I use http://www.avast.com You can download thier free home software which is the same as the corporate version. Only they charge the corporate people. This antivirus program is excellent state of the art technology that is light years ahead of any one else in the field of antivirus detection. They will require you to give them your email address so they can send you a free key that is good for one year. After one year you must ask for a new key. Same for corporate, they just have to pay.

This program gives daily sometimes twice per day updates with a voice system if you have our speakers on. If there is a virus it will tell you over your speakers. Scans all 175,000 objects in my system, including if I desire, compressed files, and removal disk trays.

In my other pc that I use I have a software program that is used by the Government of China. Antivirus software that they charge you a one time fee for life. Includes all updates, new versions and support. Fee is $29.99 for live. Another excellent state of the art technology. http://www.filseclab.com

Never had one virus in nine plus years with either program running.

If you really want a FREE and also good antivirus, its AVG.

But it should be noted that, AVG is not 100% Trustable Antivirus. Believe me, I've used all popular antiviruses like Norton, Mcafee, AVG, Panda, Trend Micro etc...

For real protection, you should use an Antivirus and a Antispyware too.

I'm a hardware engineer and I'm using several antivirus programs from about 6 years.

Currently I'm using NOD32 (but not free). It's not that popular though, but its working 100% as it should.

Norton Antivirus is Good but it SLOWS DOWN your computer, its Virus database is free for only 1 year, and sometimes it don't detects a virus automatically.

AVG is a good choice too, but sometimes (more that 40%) it reports a virus or spyware which is 100% NOT a Virus or spyware (I've tested it several times)

Other Free antivirus are not good enough, I mean your computer will still get infected if you'r using one of them.

NOD32 is a Very good antivirus system, It has everything a Antivirus or a Antispyware software should have. You can find it here http://www.eset.com/

Apart from that, If you have LICENSED Windows XP then you should use "Windows Defender" (Anti spyware) Its really good.

I hope this will help you

If you have install XP as a virtual OS then in MAC there is an option to install Kaspersky Antivirus as well. You can use that or you can download McAfee virus scan 8.5 from torrent sites and install it. It is the best but the same time resource hungry.

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.
