I don't have religion. I have faith in Jesus. So, my answer is no ... Jesus makes all my life better.

Let's see here, I've been in and out of therapy since I was a teenager because of mental/emotional abuse based in religion, I have a lot of stress from living in an overly devout area where you're Christian or shamed into being one, and I've become quite withdrawn from people out of fear and disgust towards those who seem to make it their mission in life to convert as many of the "unchurched" as possible before death.

No less than three members of my family mentally and emotionally abused me through religious since I was a child. I was told that I had a miserable life and always would because it was "God's plan" for me. I was told in subtler ways that if I didn't do as my elders told me(re: honoring the father and mother), I would go to a scary place called Hell for all eternity, even for making one little innocent mistake that children do and get into childish mischief. I was frequently compared to my cousin, who was a minister's son and now missionary and it was made clear that no matter what I did, he would always be "better" than me.

I was shamed and scolded for going to the college of my choosing, instead of the religious college my father wanted me to go to because he thought it would be "safer". I have been dragged to church and Sunday School when I was sick, including being driven through hellish Midwestern blizzards to do so. I have been pushed around and slapped for questioning my family's beliefs in even the most innocent ways.

I am currently at odds with most of my family, and feel like I have no choice but to have a church wedding next year. If I don't, they'll wonder why, demand an explanation, and if I tell them, I will be shamed if I'm lucky, disowned if I'm not. Same goes for celebrating Christmas. I'd rather celebrate the Solstice on the 21st, do the meal and gift giving then, but if I do, especially if we don't go to my uncle's, my family will wonder why it's four days early. Again, if I explain, I will be shamed if I'm lucky and disowned if I'm not.

At the very least, I am uncomfortable around my family and neighbors on a daily basis, knowing that they're 95%+ Christian in some form or another and I'm either the only atheist in town or one of a less than 1% minority. It's in no way healthy and I dream of finding a way to get the hell out of here to a place where people will accept me for who I am and not try to force me to be who they THINK I should be.

HOW?!?!? By giving idiots like you the sense that just because you go to church or whatever, you have some sort of God-given right to SPOIL a movie for hundreds if not thousands of people who read your insipidly written questions!

Not worse per se just....different. I don't like how they have their own set of rules that dictate their OWN politics. God doesn't care about petty stuff, He just wants us to love each other. But above all to have faith in Him.

Religion has made the whole world worse. We all fear fanatics that want to kill us. We should fear fanatics who want to put their religion into our law.
