Why is it that liberals espouse great admiration for the right of free speech, but are quick to silent the speech of those whom they disagree?

The unfortunate fact is that classic liberalism is not the same as modern liberalism. Modern liberals are the far left and make no mistake they are elitists in their thinking. They truly believe they know what is best for everybody and if you disagree you are too stupid or too brainwashed to understand how enlightened they are. To the far left only what they deem acceptable is considered acceptable. if your opinions cannot be rationalized into lockstep with theirs, then they must be legislated, or shouted down as intolerant and racist. You cannot win with this set, because no matter how rational your arguments are they will not hear you over the roar in their minds of their own perceived greatness. This is what is taught on liberal campuses these days. It is indoctrination plain and simple, because if you don't get them young you won't get them at all. Thus the old statement "If you are young and not liberal you have no heart, If you are old and not conservative you have no sense". To a leftist liberal free speech only applies if they are the ones saying it.
Disclaimer: The previous statement is not applied to Democrats in general. I know many Democrats who are somewhat liberal, but are still thoughtful and respectful people. Instead it is applied to most left leaning of the liberal set.
Lastly: I support the Minutemen 100% in their efforts.

Liberals have always done this, and it's because Republican oriented people almost never protest anything publicly. We are what you call the "silent majority". We use our brains instead of our emotions, and dont buy a lot of what the liberal media tells us. We work, and don't take off work so we can act like idiots in the street to protest wars, etc. Liberal protestors were a huge factor in why American soldiers in Vietnam couldn't fight to win, they brought their morale down so low.
The Minutemen are finally standing up, because all these illegals are tresspassing on their land, killing their livestock, and stealing from them. The illegals are ON THEIR personal property, their homes, directly. Texas, Arizona, New Mexico. Wouldn't you be kind of pissed off if people were constantanly going through your yard in the middle of the night? Wouldn't you think strange people crossing your grass and near your home might be wanting to steal, or harm your family????? I would. I am with the Minutemen 100%!

In all fairness, not all liberals oppose speach they don' t like.Though many on the authoritarin side of the left (Yippies gone yuppie, victim feminists-Et al)Certainly do.
While I am not a conservative either, you may find a voice of agreement with you in my question concerning Gore.My belief is that
if you support my 1st ammendment rights,I'll support yours.

Typical double standards and hypocracy. You have a right to free speech as long as your speech mirrors my point of view? It's typical. It's the same reason that Black Republicans/Conservatives are labeled as Uncle Tom's and sellouts or tokens.

It's called being a hypocrite. I think it's a sickness that lots of people suffer from. Usually other symptoms include being an a**hole and thinking you're the only one who is right, even when you contradict yourself.

The Minuteman, who mind you, disparage our Founding Fathers by using that moniker, have the right to stand in front of the dais, and spew their hateful rhetoric. They are protected by our Constitution.
The students, even though I agree with them in theory, were wrong...
