I meant to say why are they getting accepted more than minority females. The percentage of white woman in the Dental hygiene field is more than 90% what is up with that.

It isnt a race thing. There are also about no men in the program either. No reason just for whatever reason many white women want the job. If you are a minority then you will probably be given priority if you want to apply to DHY.
There are 3 foreign women in my program and a 1 black woman and 2 hispanic women in my program. It is a tough program to get into and schools want well educated individuals no matter what the race is. It has nothing to do with race or gender.

As a Hispanic female and a dental hygienist, I believe that you are looking at this topic in the wrong way. I received a bachelors degree in dental hygiene because I worked hard and received good grades. I do not believe that racial issues should have anything to do with excelling in college. Continue onward with your studies and you will prevail! Good Luck!

The question is, are they getting accepted over minorities, or are more white women applying then the minorities. Perhaps just more white women are trying to get into the field.

Maybe because minority means less in number so to me that means there should be more white then any other.
Look at it this way if all of you were hired there would still be more whites then others . right ?

Most dental hygienist schools are independent trade schools and there is hardly any "acceptance" test. You pay to go and you get in.

It only matters to those who are conscious of things like race. Plus, what Heather says is correct - if you want in, you're in.

Maybe they want it more and are more qualified for the program.
