My husband is Greek. His parents are fresh off the boat! I can not send my daughter to Greek school because we don't attend the Greek church. I also have 3 daughters with an ex. So, do you feel she should learn Greek, is it that important and if so what about the fact I would have to attend a church I don't want to and what about my other 3 children? Am I putting to much thought into this?!!!!

Children should be taught as many languages as possible. This is one big failure with American schools-they usually do not encourage languages.

I find people from the Mid-east and many places in Europe that will speak 3-5 languages. And, they seems to use them all constantly-being able to talk to many different people.

It will be a real plus to speak several languages when it comes to later life and finding an interesting job. I think all your children should learn to speak Greek, and whatever else the schools offer.

I have the same dilemma with my wife. I've stopped going to the Greek Orthodox church but there should be Antiochian Orthodox churches who perform Liturgy in English.

I see nothing wrong with your daughter learning another language. Many words come from Greek. What do your 3 daughters have to do with anything - they can learn Greek if they want but I don't hear a gun being placed to their heads to learn Greek or else.

Your children should try to learn greek, but don't push it on them. Also they should not have to go to a greek school or church if they or you do not want them to, and you should not either. Your husband should allow there to be a good mixture of culture with your children and should not get upset.

She should learn Greek and the sooner She starts the easier it will be for her to learn. When She is older perhaps She can put this knowledge to use as a profession as an example as a Greek interpreter in the U.N. or in an embassy.

This is something that needed to be discussed and settled before you got married.
