If you want to know, you can go to wal mart in the "pharmacy" section, or your local drug store and buy a drug test. They are not expensive and test for THC and some other things. Don't tell your child you are buying it, and have the more strict parent present it to the child as a suprise and tell them to take it. Don't take no for an answer. If it comes out negative and you still suspect they are taking drugs, take them to their doctor and request a toxoclogy test. then can do a blood test and tell if they are taking anything that wouldn't show up on a over the counter test. Again, don't even tell them you are planning them a docotr appt. Kids aren't stupid when it comes to playing it safe about getting caught.
Weed, and certian perscription drugs can make them sleepy and cause them to sleep a lot. don't doubt for a second the pers. drugs, many children and adults abuse them now a days. Most other drugs such as E, cociane, speed, meth, acid, are stimulants and cause them to be "hyper" or "wired" per say. Meth, with make you speed, but when the high wears off you crash and are very sleepy and will often sleep for abnormally long amounts of time.
Depression can also cause behavioral changes such as the sleep issues. So if and when you rule out drug abuse check into that. Syptoms of depression or other physcological issues are often very similar and confused to drug abuse.
Goodluck with the kiddo!

Oh, so your kids are getting sleepy and tired? First of all, look it up. Anyways, I don't know because I'm a good kid but one time I saw this girl at McDonalds [it was sick she was with her "guy"friends who dressed very innappropriatly, and she had like 3 peircings in her lip, and she looked pretty young, maybe 13 or 14] and looked like she was on drugs. Observe what your kids are doing. I'm not telling you to spy I'm just saying that you don't want them to continue if they're on drugs.

Otherwise, they're probably just not going to bed on time, I don't really think that it would be drugs it would be too obvious. Breathe smelling, ROOM smelling from the drug, ect. Just make sure that they go to bed on time, and if that doesnt change anything, make sure of what they're doing and see if they're acting abnormal, and ask your doctor or anybody for the symptoms. Good luck!

Many drugs can give a sleepy effect. Need to talk openly with your kid. If under 18 take them for a blood or urine test asap. People on drugs will shy away from people they love, they will look skinny, Pupils will dialate, one word answers, no interest for things they normally did have. Stay out at night late. Check for track marks on arms, If they are always wearing long sleves. Can't look directly in your eye for more than a couple seconds.

Good advice so far, so I'll add another thought....

What evidence do you have that your kids are on drugs in the first place? A valid concern for any parent, of course, but since you only mentioned sleep, you should be aware that kids, especially teens, get really weird sleeping habits. Mine did anyway, but I've also seen a few studies that show teens need more sleep than they typically get, that they function better at odd times of the day, and so forth. So if your only clue is the sleep, it might just be because of their age.

that can be tricky but if your kid is tired alot, doesn't necessarily mean they're on drugs. being accused or treated as if one was, when they're not - isn't a good feeling and that trust issue becomes just that..an issue. there has to be some kind of communication between you two. only you as the parent knows what's "normal" and not with your kid. start with talking to your kid. start with that. see what they say. if they're not 'acting' too out the norm, it may be nothing too serious. watch their behavior. signs and symptoms can be tricky too. it could be they're not getting enough sleep; maybe their not eating right - maybe they are depressed. this is where you come in as the parent. start a conversation with, "you know i love you and I don't want to see you get hurt." or, "i'm there for you if you need me." but don't be too hard on them. being a teenager isn't easy, especially these days with peer pressure and all. i wish you luck.
