If you mean are there people out there that are better than others? Depends on how you look at it.

In one way, yes one person can be better than another. One person may donate to charties and be kind to their neighbors, while another may steal cheat and lie.

At the end of the day though, the liar and cheater, could change their ways and be just as good of a person as the other. You Choose what type of person you are.

So really, at the end of the day, we are all the same. God made us all Equal, and anyone can be a better person. But only if they choose to.

People are NOT better just because they have more money or are more successful than someone else. Thats what alot of people think. They will look down on someone who is down and out, when really they are just in a bad situation.

No, but you hit the nail on the head it all serves to feed thier vain egoic self. It has been that way for thousands of years. Check out the book of Ecclesiastes all is vanity. I have recently read the book A NEW EARTH by Eckhart Tolle that describes mans egoic mind as always feeding off the other and in so doing puffing up its own perception of itself.

A true "better" person would be one who overcomes a deficiency in their lives such as alcoholism, drugs, etc. But society tends to think that all betterment is related to money or intelligence, neither of which has any real betterment quality to it.

I think it depends on the context.

I think you have people that are vain, of course, but then there are people who might be referring to the difference between, say, a rapist/child molestor/murderer/thief vs. themselves or some other person - and in that case, it makes sense... so, again, I think context is the ruling indicator.

You've got to make sure you are comparing Apples to Apples - you know?

Ultimately, saying that there is no "better" people is to say there is no wrong or right! But we know there IS a right and wrong! And our decisions can lead us to be better or worse...

Which takes us to back to context...

"Better" is a comparison word. You would have to know what persons are being compared. I consider the person that I am today to be better than the person I was _________(number too large) years ago. I don't consider myself better than OTHER people, because then I would have to consider other people to be worse than me. It depends on the "than" and what comes after the "than."

Yes there is, but not in terms of being better than other people; rather, you strive (or should) to make your self and your situations better and more complete and to your liking. You strive to be "all that you can be".

My girlfriend made me a better person. She completely changed my life. I thank her everyday for that, and everyday she says the same thing. That there is no need to thank her, I did it all myself.

I think there is when you mean better in the context of character
(i.e. giving, caring, loving, generous, helpful, kind)
